C200: Built-in microphone levels

Hello everybody.

On page 103 of the C200 user manual, it says the levels of the built-in microphone can't be changed. That's ridiculous. If I need to record the ambient sound of an event when I don't need a great quality (as I used to with my C100 MkII, when I set the levels manually), I will always get a distorted and over-saturated sound, which is much worse than a poor sound. Any solutions?

I am not sure, but I think most folks have a shotgun mic pretty much always attached to the camera, not relying on the internal mic. From what i have tested, the internal mic is useless, even for basic ambience.
 
Granted, we're talking about slightly different things here(ENG cameras), but for 20 years, I've always run my on-camera shotguns on AUTO. MY opinion, you're just asking for trouble any other way.
 
I believe the built-in mic on the C200 is similar to the tiny, built-in scratch mic on the C100/II and C300/II. It's not the same as the mic on the handle of the C100 which is actually decent and can be adjusted.
 
A lot of higher end cameras (Including my C500) get absolutely no audio unless a mic is plugged in, so the fact that this records anything as a scratch track is a plus.
