building a pc for editing

just got my hvx and I'm looking to build a pc to edit with as I believe I'm going to go with EDIUS broadcast.

So I need to know stuff like can Broadcast take advantage of having dual dual-core opterons.

Anyhow I figure it'll cost me around 2-3 grand, but I will spend more if I need to.

So any suggestions or configurations would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

A dual opteron setup will be very nice; but your budget may need to increase some...maybe $3500 on up.

Possible suggestions for you system:

M/B - Tyan K8WE S2895
CPU - Opterons (your choice of speed; but obviously the faster the better)
RAM - At least 2gb (fastest speed and as much as you can afford)
HDD - System 80gb 7200/8mb
HDD - For video and audio; a couple of SATA II 7200/16mb in a RAID config.; some editors separate out the video and audio on their respective drives.
VGA - Quadro 1400; or maybe a top of the line ATI or nVidia cards?
DVD Writer - NEC, Pioneer
Sound Card - M-Audio, Emu, Creative
Computer Monitor - A couple of 19" (or bigger!!) flat panels.
HD Monitor - A good HD TV; CRT or flat panel.
Power Supply - 600watts at least

AC

thanks for your reply andrew

Couple of questions.

Where's a good place to buy tyan motherboards? I primarily shop at newegg, but it's not listed there.

Are any hard drives that are listed as SATA 3.0 Gb/s, actually SATA II?

thanks for your help
Don
