Hey, that's pretty cool! Do you think that can be adapted to be used for a 4lb camcorder instead? That can be a low cost solution for a motorized pan head for some interesting special FX.

I think it could handle 4lbs without problems. The average DSLR runs around 3lbs... I do think there is potental for realtime use as well.. It is limited to 5 degrees per second so if you want speedy movement that's your top end...

I am extremely thankful you posted this information. I've been searching for something like this for months in another forum.

Several years ago a company made a moco device similar to this. They charged 14K. It was slightly more robust, but only marginally...to find something so similar for 1/100th the price is truly amazing.

Thank you!

No problem! As you can see it works fine on it's own but, stay tuned for software to so you can totally unleash your creativity on movement sequences...

I've subscribed to this thread, so you when you announce the software I'll be one of the first in line!

I'll keep you updated.... You can also keep an eye on my youtube channel. Progress is being made! I don't want to make any promises but, I'm hoping a stable beta will be available in a couple of months.

What a great creative repurposing of an off-the-shelf product!

Kudos--I may have use for this idea someday.

Cheers,

Mike

Any chance of knowing when or where the software will be released?

When... A couple more months maybe? We still have some GUI work to do and ease of use issues. I just want to get it to a point where it's 'presentable'. I don't want to make any promises!

Where... www.timeismotion.com (it's bouncing to one of my other sites at the moment...)

Now that I know real-time is workable I'd like to build that flexibility in to it as well!

This is awesome.

I stared doing timelapse as a hobby about two years ago. I use a RebelXT, a modified timed remote control that's supposed to be for the bigger cameras, and that's pretty much it. Work sends me around the country to different fancy hotels so I setup the tripod, or grip arm, and let the camera rip away while I'm inside working.

This head is something I've been looking for! Wow! I called to order one, but no answer when I called, but it was probably lunch time.

I've always done this as a hobby, and now that I've seen this post I am wondering if there is other timelapsers that maybe share ideas/experience someplace? Total chance I found this post here!

Thanks for the great info!
