SHORT: Brombiez

I recently finished my first short film with two of my friends. It took us two months to shoot because we had some newbie issues but we think it came out pretty well. I'm curious what everyone thinks :-)

Hahaha nice...I like the part where he throws out the Deuce bigalow movie...The acting at the end could be better though, espec. with the stabbing and the "NOOO". Also the slow motion will look more epic if you do an overcrank, if your camera can...or if it can't then you could record at a higher frame rate or something. The sound was pretty good, kept the suspense going.

Thank you! We had a lot of beginners mistakes but I'm glad to have gotten a positive review from someone who I don't know personally :-)

Recording at a higher framerate is overcranking.:)

Video doesn't exist? was it taken down?

It's still up but for some reason it won't play on the forums. You have to click the link to view it on Vimeo.

Edit: Nevermind, I used the vimeo tag incorrectly. Fixed.

HAHAA good short
i really liked the pacing at the beginning, all went a bit wild for me as i was enjoying the subtle story telling but it was worth it in the end  it was almost like the famous transformation scene from american werewolf in london! and i think we would all rather become a werewolf than a branded fashion victim.

All right stop collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Flow like a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop yo I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle
Dance go rush to the speaker that booms
I'm killing your brain like a poisonous mushroom
Deadly when I play a dope melody
Anything less than the best is a felony
Love it or leave it you better gain weight
You better hit bull's eye the kid don't play
If there was a problem yo I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it

...WORD!

OK now Im going to take you to a serious side for awhile.

First and the least important, but the most pertinent. Copyright issues. You have many. Vanilla Ice as the closing title sequence might be what you want, but its a copyright violation. Theres a few others here and there. For this little fun piece how much does it matter? Well depends on a few things. Who will ever see it and what do you intend to do with it?

Light balance. If youre shooting where there is heavy day light spill, its much easier to change the colour balance of your lights to match that - FULL CTB gels will do it. But you can get away with halves. Makes the whole thing more natural. Even the ceiling light can have CTB stuffed in it. Thats only going to be your start point.

Im not going to go on about every little detail. Just to say if you could push the suspense more before the punchline, you could have a much bigger bang.

We realize that lighting is an issue. We were working on zero budget since the film was meant to be a test film to get a used to the process of making a film. We had only one flood light for lighting and something that worked as a blue gel. Most of it was done with natural lighting or by bouncing natural light.

As far as the copyright issues are concerned, we don't plan on making any money off of it or entering it into a film festival so we're hoping that Vanilla Ice or the company that owns the rights to Ice Ice Baby will let it slide.

Well its highly unlikely Vanilla Ice or his management or distribution company are ever going to see it. But even so, I would get into the good habit of not breaching copyright along the way, technically showing the game on the TV is also a copyright breach.

Its not bad for a first short, keep at it

I know, but some cameras can do a overcrank in camera so you can preview it and see how it looks played back...With other cameras that can't do this, it complicates things just a little because you may end up using two different frame rates in the same timeline
