hard to believe its the 'a'.

thanx for the stills!
is it possible to have even 2 sec of raw footage? because i see a lot of noise in these stills. and as you all say it's a fantastic improvment, and that the noise is different with the new model, it would be very interesting to see how this noise is moving.

You definitely see noise. It's improved, but not gone. Again, that still is CineD (most noise of the bunch) and at 6dB of gain. The noise characteristics are very similar to the 200 + CineD at 0db. I'm pretty sure that the CineD setting on the 200 is noisier than that, hence the 9dB comparison.

Just note that the noise is still present. How much of that is DVCproHD I'm not exactly sure. Can't wait for 170 and nanoFlash man.

ok thanx!
the ugly noise is coming from the cinelike color matrix on my hvx200. Norm matrix changed everything for me, even with cineD. is it the same on the hvx200a? is the noise generated by the cinelike color matrix still looking like color noise? i'm really hesitating to upgrade .... hard decision :)

The noise seems to have taken on a "luma" appearance like the XH-A1 as opposed to to color noise. Which is great! It goes toward color when you start throwing in Gain, and at that point you begin to drift back into HVX200 territory. That's not a bad thing, because the HVX200 as it is is "useable", which means that 200A + Gain = Useable as well. That's pretty much unheard of with the 200.

And do keep in mind that you're right, I'm using the Cine-Like color Matrix. I really haven't had a desire to move to any other matrix or any other gamma because the combination of CineD and CineLike are what I've wanted to use since I've had an HVX200. Now that I can the rest don't seem to have any need to exist although I'm very sure I'll be playing around with them soon. BPress must be insane.

Also, don't expect the 200A to be "sharper" or anything like that. The "apparent" resolution seems to have increased but I think it's because the noise decreased. It's still not there in terms of resolution but all-in-all the camera has improved a good leap and a bound over the 200 in the image department. Like I said, the last frontier for Panasonic's sub HPX2000/30000 line-up is going to be the XDR and NanoFlash SDI recorders. Mmmm I can already taste the pretty images.

As I see and listen to all that is said, I'm starting to ask myself . . hmmmm, maybe the EX1 . . IS . . the way to go? I've not been a fan of the Sony low end Pro and ProSumer gear but the 1/2" cmos might be the ticket? . . AND . . 50 mins on a 16 GB SxS card is nice too + the 14x zoom and .14 lux . . wow :o)

I know Barry Green talked about the smear but is it really that big a deal? Also, is the HVX totally free of it? Lastly, can the picture be tweaked to get richer color like the HVX? I seek a solution for my upgrade in money and maybe that means a switchero :o( Progress right?

Straight from the mouth of an EX-1 owner: The camera is fine... but god forbid you ever have to pull a key or do secondary color.

No way, mang. Ex-1 has the resolution. HVX200A still wins. 170 + nanoFlash will get you HVX flavor and full frame resolution, that's the ticket.
