broken DVX question.

Went to take the small stock matte box off to put a filter on and I'm guessing that I didn't unscrew the little screw 100% because there was a small snap that I felt. When I pulled it off just about the entire front end of the camera came off with the matte box and there was a ribbon holding it to the camera unit. The piece that actually broke is this really small plastic screw hole which secures everything together. I can't believe there isn't anything more then a tiny piece of plastic screw hole to secure it together. What a shame.... I know for a FACT that I didn't put any force into taking it off as I ALWAYS give it a light twist just incase I didn't unscrew the lock screw.

I thought everything worked fine but I just now noticed that the focus doesn't have full range anymore. It only goes from 99-37 when it should go from 99-0... damn..... I just bought this thing just over a month ago.

How the hell do I explain this to Panasonic?
Will this be covered by warranty?

Any way to post a digital photo of the damage? If you can't host it, PM me and I'll give you may email address. I'll post it for you.

Maybe there's nothing wrong with your camera. If you have the zoom at 99, then you can only focus down to 37. You need to zoom down to 70 in order to have the full focus range.

Sumfun's correct -- zoom out to Z00 and you'll have MF00-MF99. At full telephoto a DVX100A will have a range of MF37-MF99, and a DVX100 would have a range of MF50-MF99.

I think your warranty will cover that! Get it serviced! Or you can sell it to me for 50 bucks! I'll even pay for shipping plus throw in a few tshirts.

bluespider, you have a deal!!! lol j/k

Sumfun & Barry, I'm @ work now but I'll check as soon as I get home for sure! Hope it works out... I'll let you guys know tonight!

Sirius, I left the cables to my camera at work so when I leave today I'm bringing them home and will take some shots and post them tonight.... Keep a look out!

Ok here's the picture...... Sorry for the bad quality...

So I bring it to the only place in NJ that repairs the DVX and the guy tells me that if the rep doesn't feel it should be covered under warranty that it'll cost me $900 to repair. So after I recover from passing out he tells me that that little screw hole is what seals the lens in to protect it..... WTF! $900 bucks?

Who do I speak to about this?

He said that usually these type of damages are from dropping the DVX and the rep should say the same thing but I didn't drop it and it seems like now I'm going to have to argue my case and try to prove it.. But how?

Does anyone think that Jan might be able to assist?

I told the repair guy that I kind of know someone in Panasonic and he said that if she put in the word that they will repair it with no question based off of her influence.

emailed Jan.... Hope she can help out.

Man, I'm so freaking upset right now. Feel like I'm on death row and didn't even do the crime.

taichili, that's exactly what I thought but the service rep argued otherwise. he said the ENTIRE lens needed to be replaced... I thought no way until he showed me one that he just replaced.
What he showed me was the whole DVX lens system with the same small piece broken.

Good luck on it. I know it sucks to spend a bunch of money to have something thats the same as what you had last week. Its like car repairs.
