Broken codec concern, maybe me

I still see it in the .png as much as I see it in the .tif. I've run it through a few different players. And not to sound condescending, but I think Adob'es mercury engine decodes AVCHD just a little bit better than Vegas. Nevertheless your insight is helpful. I've noticed less artifacts the now that I've hooked up my monitor to HDMI. It has issues, but it's not critical enough to warrant any returns.

It's interesting, I have noticed this with HDMI as well. There is really something to be said for how things are monitored. When I booted into OSX for some reason those gradation "artifacts" were more obvious, but on Win 7 the footage looks fine. Just another thing to be aware of when it comes to AVC footage.

That is because Win 7 was designed from the ground up with AVCHD support in mind and it is stellar. WinMedia player and WinMedia center play back avchd stunningly easy with barely touching the processor. VLC is NOT as good and introduces some funk and artifacts from time to time.

AVCHD on the mac is not supported by the operating system so you are forced to use toast or VLC... or transcode. Thems just the facts. Perhaps Adobe Premiere CS5 is better on the Mac but I am not too happy with it on the PC. I love the other things in the master suite production bundle though. I use encore a lot and it's great.

I'm afraid that GH series will make me spend a lot more money unless I'm willing to wait. I really can't be a true early adapter. For people like me, it's good thing that most m43 gadgets lose value quickly. I recall GF1 with 20mm was more than $1K when it first came out. I paid $699.99 + shipping on 9-18mm when it first came out. Only if I had waited a few more months. Haha. So I learned my lesson. No matter how it sounds great, wait a bit. Some early adapters will try out new products and find flaws. When we see some flaws, we should suggest Panasonic to address the issues. Let's wait and see how they address the issues in the coming months. If GH2's target market segment is truly thin, it will be silly if they don't listen to this forum's suggestion.

Compare the prices ours in Canada though and you're getting a stellar deal already. $999.99 for gh2 body only than add another 12% sales tax. They still sell the gh1 for $1300 with the 14-140mm lens.

I bought the gh2 yesterday in the US with the 14-42mm Kit lens for $900 including shipping. I'll grab it in point Roberts and have saved myself a ton of money. Price will probably go down lower in the coming months up here and in the USA, but I'm already saving a minimum of a few hundred dollars, pricepoint is pretty amazing already for someone like myself who is used to price gouging.
