Broadcast Settings?

What are the best settings if you shot a video in 720/24p mode, to export for Broadcast settings in FCP?

I noticed the formatting is different on my two seperate tv's...

I would need to down-convert to 720x480?

Please let me know best settings...

Broadcast for what? HD 720, HD 1080i/p, SD... If you are shooting for any channel, just provide the master as-is - they will take care of the rest =D

Well i'm assuming MTV2 still broadcasts in SD, so it would be for SD, so what's a good export setting? I'd have to downgrade to 720x480 then?

Last time I shot for MTV (long time ago!) I just gave them the masters (BetaSP then). Generally, by my experience, it's best to let them worry about format conversion.

But yes, you might need to down-rez from 720 to SD. However, I think they might prefer HDV masters nowadays.

BTW What version of FCP are you using? I assume you have Compressor and QT Pro too?

Yeah i have both compressor and QT pro...I just sometimes worry that even with compression testing, you never know how it will end up looking on tv.

Well, if you have an SD or HD studio monitor you will have a good reference point ;-)

I'd go for H264 codec / MPEG2 at standard SD NTSC settings. Let me see whether I have a preset for that... .

Hi Axel:

In the U.S. I can't think of any broadcast outlets that would accept an HDV master. If it's SD, they want DBeta and if it's HD, they will want D5 or HDCAM. They are cheap too so they aren't going to want to pay for a format conversion when they can put in their delivery specs that you as the contractor must deliver on their preferred format.

Best,

Dan
