Briska - Commercial using 7D and lenses

We spent two days shooting this 20 second commercial for a new beverage "Briska" at "Berns Salonger" in Stockholm/Sweden.

I worked as 1st AC and we used my camera equipment and lenses. Canon 7D, Canon 35/1.4, 50/1.2 and 85/1.8.

The director did the editing by himself and I only had a slight grading afterwards. A couple of shoots have a CG bottle but most of it is in camera action.

Check out the behind the scenes feature to get a glimpse of how it was made on my vimeo.

Wow! Thanks for sharing this!
So you didn´t shoot flat on the 7D?
And how big was your crew/setup?
Could you "save" on lighting/gaffing?

No we didn't shoot flat but had contrast, colour and sharpness dialed down pretty much.

We had a camera/lighting crew of four people and used many smaller lights like dedo and LED. We had one HMI to create ambient lighting in some scenes but many scenes we used existing spotlights in the bar. To lit the bottle we had a small dedo mounted on a magic arm.

The shoot was done while the restaurant/bars where open so it was stressful because they needed to move us around alot.

Great work. I'm curious about the grading in post. As nice as most 7D clips are, this piece has a real filmic look to it I'd like to achieve myself. A combination of lighting and grading, I suppose.

Nice one editman, thanks for posting. Those dedos certainly rock the look.

+1 on the GH1 footage looking great

Yes it's a combination of lighting and grading but more import it's to get to know how to use the camera at it's best. We have also found a team that work great together.

When I work as 1st AC and I do know these HD DSLRS pretty well now, I make sure we are within the limits of what looks good. (Got the D90 when it came out, the GH1 when it came out and the 7D when it came out...)

Yesterday I got my second 7D body just because I like this camera so much. Thought about getting a 5D MKII now with 24/25p and all but I do believe 7D to be a better camera for video work.

Looks really professional, as so often good lighting makes the difference. There is still a little editing flaw?: at app. 12:00 when the bottle passes the beautiful lady with the martini it is supposed to go from right to left (from the viewers point of view) but in fact goes to the opposite direction, this is a little puzzling making the viewer think, the lady is sitting behind the the bar (maybe the barkeepers girlfriend, I hope not). Same is true for the guy catching the bottle.

look great!
did you used the netural profile and then down with contrast, sat, sharp?
very informative BTS
i will take one or two tricks:)

Yes I had the camera on neutral setting and contrast, chroma and sharpness turned down.
Future BTS videos I'll be making with my backup/b-camera a second 7D body.
