Bridesmaids

This movie was f..king hilarious. Produced by Judd Apatow (40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Funny People), directed by Paul Feig (creator of Freaks & Geeks), written by and starring Kristen Wiig (SNL, Knocked Up, Date Night).

Did I mention it has Jon Hamm in a completely NOT Don Draper role?

Anyone else seen this?

This review sums it up for me pretty perfectly...

Judd Apatow meets Wedding Crashers meets The Hangover, but with females!

This movie is hilarious fun. My wife drags me to one chick flick a year in the theater, and I'm glad it's this one. Considering the talent involved, I expected something more than meets the eye after seeing the trailer. However, I was not expecting such a hysterical experience. This is a chick flick for dudes... the anti-chick flick "chick flick" if you will.

What I loved about this movie is that although you get a sense of the heart and charm, it's not afraid to pull any punches just because the characters are female (the scene in the bridal shop will be the topic of much discussion, I assure you). I also loved the cast, lead by the always awesome Kristen Wiig. She was perfect in this role and I hope she does more work like this. She can make me pee my pants with laughter, and then straighten me right back up in a matter of seconds.

I also loved the pacing of most of the film. Several scenes had just the right amount of awkwardness or pause or "beat" that really added an extra element of hilarity. There were several of those scenes where the audience was collectively cracking up, almost violently so. People were wiping tears from their eyes and still relaying jokes back and forth to one another as they filed out of the theater.

Anyway, guys, trust me.. make this the "chick flick" you surprise your girl with and take her to the theater. You won't regret it.

I really wanted to like it, but I thought it was just alright. It's definitely marketed as a quest movie like The Hangover, but it isn't. It's also not the ensemble comedy it's marketed as; it's a real shame that they didn't give the talented and hysterical writer/actress Ellie Kemper much to do here other than to fill out the cast. Kristen Wiig's character, Annie, is kind of hard to root for, and she's broken down and embarrassed so much that it became a bit painful to watch at times. But it's nice to see a film marketed to women that isn't a complete insult. I'll give this a 2.5 out of 4.

I really wanted to like it as well. It built itself up to painful to watch and then everything got fixed way too quickly. It just wasn't a properly paced film. It was hilarious in the beginning, but unfortunately they couldn't bring it to a close well enough in my opinion.

I agree to some extent about the pacing, especially the way it just flips instantaneously at the end, but I think it was pretty clear in the marketing what it was. I didn't stop laughing the whole time. <SPOILERS...kind of?> The only thing that wasn't funny was when they started singing in the end and then I was all excited 'cause I spotted Paul Feig's half-second cameo, so I didn't mind the rest.

It's already $13mil past 40-Year-Old Virgin at the same point. I don't think it's likely to pass Knocked Up's $148mil, but it's only a little behind Superbad as well. I'm really surprised it held up so well this weekend despite The Hangover's massive take.

It was packed at the Arclight in Sherman Oaks. We (my girlfriend and I) actually wanted to see it yesterday, but only the front two rows were available for the rest of the day's show times.

I think it's a movie that's getting good word of mouth and will continue to crank out some good numbers for the next 3/4 weeks.

SPOILERS!!!!

Great movie, much better than the trailers would have you believe. Kristen Wiig is great and very likable. Lots of laughs.

3.75 (or 4?) outta 5

Great film, was happy with its take on female comedy. I've always found it harder for a female to make me laugh, but this movie had no trouble doing so.

I found this film to be incredibly overrated. It's poorly written, lacking any real, credible stakes, and interminably paced. It's just a bunch of skits held together with the barest excuse for a plot. That some of the skits are indeed hilarious, and some of the actors game, is the only thing that kept it watchable for me. Maybe it speaks to the dearth of movies made primarily for women that anything that's even halfway competent is embraced rapturously by them. Also see Twilight.

I have mixed feelings about this movie. It was more vulgar and crass than necessary. I generally liked the characters -- big Chris O'Dowd fan. There were weaknesses in the writing, but also some really good dialogue. Overall, fairly enjoyable but not outstanding.

I watched it again last month on DVD, and it really didn't hold up well. The first time I saw it, I laughed my damn ass off, but the second time, I was roundly bored.

Well a receptive, engaged audience can do wonders for even the most mediocre of films, especially comedies. I remember seeing Look Who's Talking in a crowded theater and being entertained in spite of myself.

It was far too long for starters but the cast just about managed to carry it over the line. But the lead male that was cast was awful. No worse than the equally overrated Hangover,

Do you mean Chris O'Dowd??? I like him a lot. He may have been mis-cast in this role, but he is generally very entertaining.
