"Brian Butterworth's Bedroom" By Robbie Comeau

Joshua Budd will be playing the role of Brian. (Headshot on first post)

The mother is almost picked as well.

Might be out this round...We got big plans for this short, and it wouldn't fit the time limit.

Also, due to scheduling reasons, we may not make it on time either.

Every things ready to go it seems, but we still need to set a shoot date.

Robbie

Set the date and shoot this puppy. You got so many other festivals you could get it into... plus I'm sure we ALL wanna see your next film... I know I do, so set it up and knock it down already.

I know we didn't make the fest, but we're going ahead and shooting it regardless. This Thursday (September 3rd) actually...only problem is that I didn't book our sound guy quick enough and he's not going to be able to make it.

I'll make a post in the 'Jobs' section as well, but if anyone would be interested in coming out and doing sound for Brian Butterworth's Bedroom that would be great. Shoot me a PM and we'll talk.

Thanks,

Kegan

Updates to come..I'll be moving this thread to User Films.

Updated post 2.

BTS Pictures up.

----------------------------------

We have FINALLY set a day to shot, weeks and weeks after Questfest was already done..

Kegan calls me up and says the shoot day is next Thursday, that was like a week in advance, and this was after a while of not really devoting time to the script/pre production, cause I sort of lost faith in it as we had a break from scheduling. It was hard to set the date.

Anyway, I had to work a lot before Thursday was coming so I was trying to get some last minute things done.

I only had the one prop, a wheelchair, which was very easy and affordable to get.

I went over the script, and pictured it out in my head on what shots I wanted.

It's now thursday, the day of the shoot, and I need to go get the DP who lives a half hour from me. Austin Vavrovics, met him off here on DVXuser.

I pick him up, load the dolly, lights, camera, LETUS, and we drive home, not even THINKING of grabbing his tripod. (Mine's broken)

We get to my place, figure out that we don't have a stable environment for the DVX+Letus Combo, so we drive back to grab the tripod. At this point we were rattled, but in the end, it was worth it cause his Tripod was WAY better then mine.

Everyone showed up at noon, and we started filming for 1.

The day took much longer then expected, with a lot of breaks, it ended up being 11pm before everyone went home, except for Austin and I cause we still had to do some pick up shots.

The cast and crew were great, we had many laughs, and it was overall a smooth day..

I want to thank DVXuser because I have found a few people on here that ended up working with me on films. Kegan, Austin, Herman and Raptor so far. A great networking site.

I'll keep you all posted with Still and BTS, and some updates.

Thanks for reading,

Robbie

Just to add to Robbie's production blog...

THE REASON:

It was coming to the end of summer and I hadn't done anything creative in a while. Lots of tedious editing and monotonous tasks that keep you from really enjoying the creative side of filmmaking. I decided last week that we were going to shoot this Thursday and no scheduling conflicts were going to stop us this time.

SCHEDULING/CREW:

The principal roles in the film were able to make it out and that was all I needed. Unfortunately, the original DP and original sound guy we had for our project were unable to come out due to prior obligations, so it was time to find new ones.

Robbie recommended someone out of Barrie that frequents the site - AustinV and I shot him a PM, looked at some of his stuff and after talking to him for a bit, decided to take a risk. Glad I did, because he worked out perfectly - really a hardworking guy and kept a positive attitude throughout the day

When it came to sound, I resorted to a craigslist posting and one of the first emails I got stuck out to me the most. Jeff had a professional website, good demeanor through email and was very prompt with his responses, which was what I needed only two days before the shoot. After a couple emails back and forth, I felt confident that Jeff would fit the role great and did he ever! Came out with his full kit, offered advice and some direction as we went over certain shots and overall did an excellent job, despite our short day turning into a longer than we expected day.

THE BAD:

Well, we shot outside for the first couple hours and during that time there was a constant barrage of wasp attacks, for some crazy reason. Robbie got stung on the bottom of his foot and Shawna (the actress playing Brian's mom) got stung on her lower back. Despite this setback, we were able to get the shots we needed outside. I also think because of my cologne they were chasing me around for the majority of the time heh. *Note to self - don't wear cologne when shooting outside at the end of summer.*

Indoors however, we faced a different problem. We had to turn the AC off, to get good sound and with the high wattage lights in a small room, it became very hot to work in, very quickly. The majority of the shoot was actually spent in that room, so kudos to everyone involved for toughing it out and not complaining!

THE GOOD:

Well, we had a good group of people collaborating on the project, though very few of us had known each other prior to the shoot day. Robbie and I of course knew each other and the actor playing Brian had actually previously worked with our sound guy Jeff, previously.

Before we knew it though, there were lots of laughs, good times overall and we made absolutely sure that each shot was getting done prior to moving on. Robbie was a real perfectionist this time around and it was really cool to see his talent for directing really grow throughout the course of this film.

I believe BBB will turn out to be a fantastic film and am really proud to have been apart of it.

I'd like to thank everyone again for coming out on such short notice and giving their absolute best. It really was an honour to work with all of you and I hope to do so again very soon!
