Brevis35 Test

Is it a special 10x achromat?
I wonder if it would work with the Letus...

Thanks,
Adrian
P.S. Always loved your contrasty moody style!

I think it's a 10x (don't have the specs for it), but it's the same one that Redrock manufactures for the M2. Dennis of Cinevate buys it from them. It should work fine with your letus or any 72mm mount camera..

I just had a chance to check that clip Krum....looking very good :-) Iceland's not so icy, eh! I'm really happy you've finally got one of these in your hands.

And I'm very, very happy to have it in my hands.

It's pretty much the perfect adapter for my needs. Switchability, upgradability, weight, form factor, sharpness, light loss...

I just plain love the look the adapter produces...

I'm very much looking forward to the new diffuser for even shallower DOF. I just find it amazing to be able to choose your look and tradeoffs for different applications.

Anyway, keep it up Dennis and soon enough you'll have a product that will be very hard to beat at this price point..

I'll admit, after months and months of exhaustive work in the shop, phone calls, emails, meetings, testing, editing, financial committments, disappointments, industrial high jinks and the like, feedback like that is very much appreciated. Truthfully, the greatest reward I get from this project, and motivation to develop further, is seeing other people being creative with the adapter. Have fun :-)

Dennis, I couldn't agree with you more, I'm with you on this one and understand just how difficult it is to make it happen. But you have developed an adapter that performs brilliantly and in such a short space of time. Hats off to you!

Cool footage. I have a Brevis also and when Im done with this recovery of mine you will start to see a lot of footage from mine. I also have the HD macro and it makes a world of difference.

I was looking at the Letus and the SG35 (currently updated to the SGPro)

I got kind of iffy on the Letus back then because of reports of distortion on 72mm mount cameras, dust getting in, light loss, sharpness etc. I have no idea if these issues have been rectified since then but I assume so since it's popularity..

I would have gotten the SG back then but it was just out of production as Wayne was switching to the SGPro witch has proven to be a very good adapter..

When the time came (and I had enough money freed up) I was just starting to take a look at the M2, and then came along the Brevis35. I got lucky and got on the beta program for the unit, so I got a very good deal on the adapter. I knew I was taking a risk since it was an adapter still in it's design stages, and I it was very much BETA, but the adapter promised huge things. For one I though the weight and form factor were far closer to my needs than the M2, which is tethered to rails.
While I prefer and recommend the use of rails with the Brevis, you can pretty easily get away with skipping them for run and gun work, as long as you use short, light lenses. racks will be shakier but if you're going handheld anyway it won't really matter. I actually like the shaky, free look. But that's all about personal prefrence...

Since I got on board the adapter has only improved. Dennis has used the beta groups input very wisely, and it has paid off in some very unique features, such interchangable diffusers, a feature that alone would have been a deal breaker for me before...

Anyway. I haven't had too much time with it yet, but that will change soon. But from the expirience that I have had so far I would recommend that anyone looking for an adapter in this price range take a hard look at the Brevis..

I was sold on the original footage and also the size and design of the unit. The internal batteries which hold a 20 hour charge was also a big selling point. I didnt want wires hanging off the side of my camera. I am really happy with my choice.

Good to hear about the distortion. I hadn't heard about that aspect.

Is the SGPro much better than the original? I went to their website and some of the footage looks pretty good. They don't tell you which adapter was used, however.

I've noticed the replies from them and was impressed by that. I also noticed that Redrock Micro didn't even want to offer their adaptor for the comparison between the Letus and the Brevis.

I'm strongly leaning towards the Brevis... is the SGPro image inverted or no?

Hey Aram, did you get the SGPro unit or the earlier version?

It was quite a while back that I was looking at the Letus, so my opinion of it is dated at best...
