Breakfast with A1

So I had a boring thursday evening and decided to hook up with few friends and shoot something. As you might notice, I used my DIY skater dolly and jib extensively :D Here's the result, hope you like it ;)

You are seriously talented. It is great to see your work.

The shots were great, nice job cutting as well.

Can you share more details about your setup - lights, settings, etc.

Are you mostly using your skater dolly for straight moves (not curved)? I am still debating a skater dolly purchase and am now leaning towards an indiSlider, thinking that I can live without curved move functionality.

Great job. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely you have the best XH-A1 videos I've seen. Those smooth dolly/crane moves are everything to make your stuff look pro. How much does a skater dolly and one of those cranes cost? I have to get me some of those sweet moves. Also, the wider shot looked very wide. Did you use a wide angle?

If I remember correctly badlaa said something on another thread that for slow motion he shoots interlaced at 120 and then slows it down 50% on vegas. I might be mistaken though.

This is so good I watched it many many many times... Awesome pictures and colours!!! =D

What were your equipments?
35mm Adaptor?
Lights?

Hey thanks guys!

For lighting we had three Arri fresnels, 2x300w and one 650w. It was just the stock A1 lens (although I just received my SgPro woohoo! :D).

Oynk: I prefer the skater dolly over the slider because it's much more versatile. There were few curved moves in this piece and I pretty much use both straight and curved moves equally.

Rawfa: Skater and Jib are both DIY so you can't get these exact ones from shop. Didn't use wide angle adapter, used the widest position for the last shot.

Slowmo-shots were achieved by using 100-250 shutter speeds in 1080i and slowing them down in Avid this time :D

You could have fooled me. I could almost swear it was day light. Well done, my friend. Also, let me know when you go on the market with that crane and skater dolly.

pawpaw: I used disjecta's VIVIDRGB with slight modifications. Master ped was set at -4 and Color Gain at +10.

Why can't I connect to your site?? no one else is having this problem?

I tried yesterday, and it failed to connect... tried agian just now, and same deal.

Well, what the fack!? I've tried through Safari and Firefox, and same deal. It just says "contacting www.badlaa.com" for a few minutes, then times out and says the server is not responding.

Arggg... I wanna see.

bballplaya283: Thanks and yes it was done in one night, it was about a three hour session at my place except the opening timelapse shot which was done other day.

rcbrown23: I'll try my best to upload the clip to another server today so you can enjoy the breakfast too :D

Hmm, it was alright. I wouldn't usually post but I'm a tad puzzled by the gushing comments. Must admit that I didn't like the concept or acting- first shot of him in the bed put me off it before it even began. Cutting was good, probably the best thing. Jib work added a lot. It looked very under-graded, for my tastes. Colour punch was decent but didn't go far enough. Lighting feels simplistic and not very pro- you need to shoot much softer to get the slick look it seems that you were shooting for. Bouncing your fill is fine, but your hard key isn't great. Didn't look anything like daylight (as a previous poster mentioned), but I didn't feel that it was meant to.

Hope these comments will be received okay- there's a lot of promise, great grip and cutting, but the concept, light and grade I didn't like.

I think that the context for the gushing is that this was done on a whim. He introduced the piece this way:

Your thoughts on the concept, acting and color grading lead me to believe that you missed the first line of his post.

You might also want to check out another video he did which is, in my opinion, one of the best things I have seen on these boards to show the power of great raw shooting (no heavy post production or other gimmicks).

your videos are simply amazing!

beatbox, hackysack, breakfast.

keep up the good work.
looking forward to future videos you make as well.
