Breakaway "Teaser"

A teaser for a short film I directed in October at the Colorado Film School in Denver. Shot on the Canon 7D, edited in Final Cut, and graded in Color. We used local talent, including Chris O'Neil from "The Last Mimzy."

The film is a coming of age story about a young boy struggling to overcome inhibition while learning to let go of his younger self.

Great potential... I dunno what the short looks like but the handheld is so heavily distracting that it's hard to watch even the teaser.

Breakaway teaser

A nice collection of well lighted and composed clips, but for *** sake get a tripod-monopod-something! Any longer I would have been carsick. Seriously.

The clips also didn't click together into any kind of storyline for me, not even sure if they were supposed to. Score didn't really tell me anything either except it's going to be melancholy.

Ok - this is coming across meanspirited, and I absolutely do not mean it that way.
This is just one hacks subjective first impression. Perhaps you meant this style and I'm way off base and too thick to make the connections between shots. It's so easy to miss the fact your audience may have trouble grasping the essence from a diverse set of pops when you've been pouring your soul into the editor 16 hours a day, keeping track of every nuance. I do look forward to seeing how it comes together.

Peace and best wishes.

Thanks for the remarks. I don't think either of you are being too harsh. I put the teaser together fairly quick, mostly to test my workflow since it's my first time working with the 7D . It could definitely represent the film better. As for the handheld work, it was a stylistic choice which may or may not work in the end. I will say that it certainly feels more natural in the rough I've put together than in this fifty second collection of clips the teaser displays, though.

Thanks again for taking the time to check it out and respond.
