Break-in...

Jim,

I took a closer look at your post and you said camera and file related. But you did NOT say they got a camera or the chip. How much damage can they do with what they took?

Jay

Man they're soooo screwed. People would turn in family members for that.

I love engadget... Send them an email and ten minutes later they're on the case. By tomorrow 250,000 people will be looking :)

I'm not sure I even know how to articulate the way this news makes me feel.

My thoughts are with you and your team, Jim.

This is hateful and despicable. I only hope that the people who did this someday develop the presence of mind to understand how wrong this is. I'm e-mailing everyone I know who might hear something tonight.

This just sucks and makes me sick..

we all need to keep our eyes on the message boards and news boards obviouse who ever took them has been following the boards. I agree with everyone I don't think it was a competitor per say but someone who can see the interest the a competitor would have in this kind of information. If we can get as much press on this as possible it is going to make it very hard for who ever did this to do anything but give it back. And that might just be there plan. to extort RED..

That sucks...if I were closer I'd would lent you part of my security system:

I think a few Rotties roaming inside the plant would be an excellent deterrent.

I´m sorry for you guys.
Now even the last ones in our business knows you guys are a threat to the status quo. The RED means trouble.
Let this encourage you to kick some serious a**.
Take care,

Spart

Jim -- I'm very sorry to hear that this happened. Whoever did this deserves to be drawn-and-quartered -- However, I think you have a collective group of people here who will help out in whatever way we can both in trying to catch whomever did this and in keeping the development and production on-track.

Jim, what level of operation was this? I would assume your facility was pretty secure. Are we talking about a high level team that did this or is it the type of thing that someone amongst us, i.e an average Joe looking to make some bucks could have pulled off? Obviously, the question has to be asked whether any financial information related to those on the reservation list was stolen. It sounds like you were indicating it was camera related only, but just want to make sure. Hopefully this will all get resolved as you guys have put way too much effort into this for it to be compromised by some goons trying to steal your hard work. Keep us posted.

Thanks,
Steve

Actually, I think this is a great sign. A sign that someone feels extremely threatened. Make no mistake, this was not stolen to be sold, traded, etc. This was taken by an end user company who is scared to death. Keep them shaking in their boots JJ.

ash =o)

seriously, jokes aside

seriously, jokes aside

There are two possibilities. 1) inside job 2) outside job

Lets go with the theory that it was an outside job, since all the Red employees are loyal to the company.

First they would have to find the location of the Red offices. They are posted on the website below.

http://www.squidoo.com/reddigitalcamera/

Jim should contact the owner of squidoo and ask to see the records of all people (IPS#s) that visited the website in the past few months.

The thieves also probably went to Yahoo or Google maps to get directions to the address they got from squidoo. I saw on TV once how police tracked down a killer from a map he down loaded from Yahoo maps. It took the cooperation of Yahoo and the killer's internet (ISP) provider.

Jim should hire a private investigator. My advice is to not hire the same ones the HP CEO hired because they bend the law.

It shouldn't be hard to find the thieves, assuming Jim changed the tape in the security camera VCR.

Possibility #3, it could have been an Oakley employee. The two offices are close. They might know who comes and goes and when.

throw away your phone

throw away your phone

Better throw away your phone. The Red warehouse could be bugged. Better hire someone to do a sweep for bugs. Don't laugh. Better hope they didn't put spyware on our computers, assuming they didn't steal them all.
