Brackendale Part 2

Re: Brackendale Part 2

I was going to mention it...I am getting interlaced articacts!

Re: Brackendale Part 2

Sorry, I thought that's what interlaced artifacts were. What should I be looking for? The rest looks pretty good to me.

Re: Brackendale Part 2

Also realize that you are going to get artifacts in a heavily compressed and reduced file. It's almost impossible not to, particularly when there is a lot of motion going on. I assure you none of what you are seeing is visible in the original.

Re: Brackendale Part 2

Are these the same artifacts we saw on train tracks?

Re: Brackendale Part 2

Shaw, the only way you could be seeing "interlace" artifacts is if you still have the old file cached in your browser. I just looked at it again and it's about as clean as Sorenson is going to get it.

When you mask it to 2.35:1 aspect ratio, arent you losing a lot of footage?[/quote]

I was going to ask the exact same question & how does this look on a widescreen tv.
Could I get the same effect if I shoot in squeeze mode?

Re: Brackendale Part 2

Yes, shoot in squeeze mode (which will give you 16:9 footage) and letterbox it and you will have approximation of Cinemascope.

Re: Brackendale Part 2

Just watched it and wow man thatis great. The one scene felt like I was in Middle Earth...just missing the Giant Statues.

We live near Blackwater Refuge here in MD, I really want to get footage of Eagles.

Re: Brackendale Part 2

wowzas! Keep it coming these are awesome. Those shots of the eagles, were they with the teleconverter? I live quite close to Brackendale and would love to head up there for a day if I can get that close to the eagles.
thanks

Re: Brackendale Part 2

Twixtor. You use a lot of cools tools I wish I can afford. Which scene was it used on? The eagle flying before it faded into trees shot? I didn't notice any blockiness btw. You're the only one I've seen who has mentioned twixtor and it's very intriguing.

Re: Brackendale Part 2

Darkavenger,

I used Twixtor on two shots in this piece, the eagle shot mentioned already and the twinkly leave shot at the end (the original was a little fast and shaky). Both are slowed down to 50%.

Generally I'd like to get slowmo by shooting at 60i, bringing it into a 24p timeline and slowing it down to 40%. That will give you very smooth slowmo without creating motion frames in between like Twixtor does. Unfortunately because what I do requires a lot of run and gun shooting, it's hard for me to plan something like that ahead of time. I see an eagle heading towards me, I'm shooting, not fumbling with my camera trying to change settings.

I rarely use Twixtor but when I need slowmo from something already shot in 24p, that's the tool I use.

Re: Brackendale Part 2

I just went up to Brackendale for a few hours to get some shots. It was great. I thought maybe I'd see one or two eagles but there were tons within site of the road. I wasn't shooting DVX, I was testing out a 300mm lens I got on my Bolex but I will go back up one day with better weather to get some DVX action. It's tough to catch those suckers with such a long lens but I got a few nice in flight shots. Of course the best shots I missed right as I got there and later when I stopped to answer my phone. :-/ that's how it allways seems to go

Re: Brackendale Part 2

Always a pleasure to watch this stuff - never a chore! Beautiful as always. ;D

Re: Brackendale Part 2

By the way, the timelapse at the end of this one is probably the best I've seen from you! Fantastic!

Re: Brackendale Part 2

disjecta,

would you be so kind to post just a few sec. original sized video of this footage ? 720x480 with letterbox.

Re: Brackendale Part 2

disjecta,

Thank you very much. I start downloading now. I just wanted to show the start of your film to the others in the studio. The start has a very good framing and the colors is also very good. My first impression was that it is a beginning of a Western Movie.
