Bount to happen: My First Wedding Video

It was an unpaid gig I did for my buddy's daughter. Was glad to do it just for the experience and to have some footage that I could play with.

No fancy gear here ... 99% handheld and the rest done with a tripod.

Canon 7D. Tamron 17-50mm VC. Adobe Premiere Pro CS5. Windows 7 (64 bit).

I have been going back and forth for many hours on if/how to comment.

This video is not very good. That was me trying to be nice. There is nothing about the video that seems 7D like. It seems very DVX like. Also to slomo has to go. Did I see a 13 second take with a cross dissolve to the same angle just a moment later? You need to cut more and search for better angles if they were shot. Also look into your export settings as this was bad quality even at 720. Was it shot 640x480?

Good luck and don't send to the family until you work with it some more.

Thanks for the feedback. I should say that I'm merely a serious amateur when it comes to video and yup, I have so much to learn and teach myself, haha. Btw, did you watch them using the HD setting?

The video was shot on 720p60 and slowed down to 40% on the timeline then exported to 720p30. You may be on to something about my export settings ... I probably need to review and tweak them as I rely mostly on the h.264 presets that PP CS5 provides.

Your comment on the shot variety is spot on. I did see that myself after the fact :). Normally, I move around a lot when I shoot stills but somehow forgot to do that as I was looking through the viewfinder. Like I said, this is just my sorta first wedding video ever ... so lessons learned right there.

The family has already seen the videos on the web and, uh, ... well, they're kinda happy seeing them actually, ha ha. The DVD version actually looks much better.

Thanks again.

The subject of the video, especially when family or free, will often like the video. That is a plus sometimes for wedding videos. I think you can get a better edit if you make the cuts a little quicker and really examine the footage you have.

I was surprised that the depth of field was so deep. That can be a challenge indoors and can be hard to resist in that camera. This is one area I really commend you in your shooting. Most newbies go shallow all over the place, hell I even got the bug.

Good Luck, practice and wiliness to open yourself to constructive criticism will go a long way. Heh!
