Boompole Bags/Cases? What do you use?

The Cavison case looks extremely close in build to my White River fly rod tube which I purchased from Bass Pro a few years ago. Likely just re-branded.

I believe it was this one: (http://www.adorama.com/l/Video-Equi...eo-Bags-and-Cases/Cavision~Video-System-Cases). So, 35.4". They have several different lengths, and a double boompole version.

It's a great simple case if you keep everything put away separately like me. If you, however, keep the mic and/or windscreen on the pole while in storage, such as in OldCorpse's situation, then the fly fishing rod case would be a more practical choice.

I keep the mic and accessories in a camera backpack (only used for sound equipment): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002DW99H8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Works great, though eventually when I get higher end equipment, it'll get it's own pelican case.

It does look very similar to the White River fly rod tube, now that I look at it. You may very well be right about the rebranding. I've never heard of a company rebranding for another use/specialized tool though.

More likely there is a factory in China making cases and luggage of various styles and both companies contracted for similar products. Cavision doesn't build that case and neither does White River.

I once took a tall light stand for my coincident-pair microphone on a trip across the country. I found a great soft shotgun case that fit perfectly.
Alas, when I got to the airport, no amount of explaining and even eyes-on inspection of the contents caused them to treat as anything other than a firearm.
Furthermore, they told me that anything long and thin is handled separately from the checked baggage because of the possibility of jamming up the system.
So I spent lots of time hanging around the "oversize baggage" window waiting for it to be hand-delivered. Just saying.

This is what I assumed.

That's disappointing, though not unexpected, that homeland security would cause difficulty in flying with it.
Shotgun mic, hah. Oh man. They'd have a heart attack.

Not to mention those movies ("Bodyguard" et.al) and TV shows ("Nikita", et.al.) where the bad guys modified a camera-mounted "shotgun mic" with a rifle barrel inside. Then one of the bad guys knocked-off a news reporter and used his camera to mount the rifle-mic so he could assassinate the Target. I guess they edited out the scenes where they aligned the viewfinder to serve as a proper rifle-sight in order to aim the kludge.

Never ever use the words "Shotgun" or "Shoot" with air travel. In fact, the term "Wireless" or "Radio" can cause problems, especially internationally. I always call wireless systems "portable microphone system".
BTW, I've never had any issues sending a boom pole/case though luggage. OTOH, tripods and light stand cases are ofter routed to the oversize baggage pick-up area.

Yep. And DO. NOT. JOKE. around with "blow up" and things like that. There is ZERO humor for Homeland Security types at airports, and you *will* be prosecuted for making terroristic threats, no matter how you protest that it was "an obvious joke" - there are many such cases of prosecution of people who thought 'I was just kidding around'. People come into airports thinking it's like any other place - but it is not. So you can't apply standards of "joking around" that work elsewhere - there is ZERO TOLERANCE policy at airports, and I mean really *zero*. If you want to get arrested, go ahead, otherwise, just keep your head down and get through the flight. Get in, get out. Not worth causing problems for yourself and others. Make everything as idiot-proof as you can, otherwise expect delays and surprises.

And then there's the story of the Australian DP who was asked at security why he was flying to the US.

"On my way to shoot a pilot, mate."
