Bond 23 - Skyfall

Would it really be sacrilege to go back through the canon and remake some of the original stories with Craig in the modern area, like they did with the BBC Sherlock Holmes series? I would totally be okay with that.

From a practical stand point, as much as I like Craig and where he has taken the character he has maybe 2 more iterations tops before he is just too ridiculously old for the role. There is also a thread of realism in these last three (it gets a little arguable in Skyfall) that would take some crazy spinning to reintroduce someone like Ernst Blofeld. . .maybe Ernst Blofeld ala Donald Trump would fly.

They could re-introduce Quantum into the mix. If it were up to me, I'd re-introduce Sévérine as a "twist" in which she is actually one of the heads (if not the head) of Quantum and her role in Skyfall was simply to get Bond to Silva so that he would kill them for them as he had become a loose cannon over his obsession.

It would redeem a poorly written character at least.

Bond has always gone through their moods. I love every actor and every period. It was silly with Roger Moore , and it got stupid with Brosnon . Dalton, not too talked about , I thought was a very good Bond; all pissed off and fierce.

The last three Bond films are amazing to me. I love Craig's spin. I love the direction it's taken . It is being taken seriously .

Plot points can be construed all day long, but he's not surfing a wing off a Glacier's giant wave .

Craig is the Ultimate Bond. He has the chop's, the muscle, the look's.

I can dig Barry's objection, but this is Hollywood. The Bond film's are legit. Finally.

I really enjoyed Dalton's portrayal of Bond. His reminds me the most of Daniel Craig's Bond. There is a certain danger to them. Besides Connery, I'd say Dalton and Craig are my favorite Bonds.

As for the Daniel Craig Bond films, I like all three. I thought Skyfall was the strongest so far, but Casino Royale was a great start, if a tad bit overrated. Quantum of Solace is the weakest of the three, but still fun. I mean, you can't go wrong with Bond girls played by Gemma Arterton and Olga Kurylenko. Quantum of Solace ain't so bad. It is the Temple of Doom of the Daniel Craig Bond trilogy.

I'm up to reading "Goldfinger" right now of the original novels, and I think a readaptation of most of the series is in order. The business with SMERSH... tied to the then contemporary Great Satan Soviets... probably would have to be 'updated'... but several of the novels only have the Soviets on the periphery anyway...

I wouldn't mind seeing Herr von der Drache getting the treatment he has in the novel, but it IS hard to beat Michael Lonsdale's Drax.

I was just looking at all the reissued Ian Fleming BOND novels on Amazon. I love the new covers, very classy. I've also wanted to try out some of the novels, as I've only been exposed to the Bond films. They're not expensive either for what look to be nice quality editions (at least not cheapo mass market paperbacks).

I suppose I'll start with Casino Royale, or are the novels like the films where you can pick up just about any of them in whatever order you like?

I bought the Ian Flemming novels during an Amazon promo that was something like $1.99 each for the Kindle editions... and have been reading them 'in written' order.

The most significant differences at the moment, are 1) no real 'gadgets'... 2) Bond does seem to be far more 'introspective' and sort of hesitant on action at times, where the film Bond never seems to have such 'angst' moments...
