"BOGO: Director's Cut" update

"BOGO: Director's Cut" update

Just wanted to share some info I recently found out: the Great Lakes Independent Film Festival has selected the new 10 minute cut of "BOGO" to show opening night in September!

"Hunting Camp" (also shot with the DVX) will be playing right after "BOGO" as the night's main event! Pretty damned cool!

hiro,

This is an update on the Director's Cut, he he, that's the version that made the festival...I'm still tweaking as much as I can though (up until the end of the month if need be), I will probably post it online once I get it done and it will definitely be included with "Hunting Camp" orders as well on DVD.

jdanstan,

Definitely got a good chuckle out of me on your 1st post! In school I would have been happy with a B+, now though, I know that's room for lots of improvement. I have made the movie's overall look more contrasty and have been going back and fixing the blown out skies and whatnot that I didn't have time to work on from the DVXfest version, if that's what you mean? Let me know...here's a screen shot:

jdanstan, also I am not sure if I was sending out BOGO DVD's with orders of HC yet when you purchased it, did you get it on DVD then? If not I would be happy to send you out one on disc when it's done.

Yeah that must be it.

I luma key a copy of the clip to delete blown out sky, tweak the rest of the image so it looks correctly exposed and then place it directly over the original which I gamma correct and filter for correct sky exposure and add a guasian blur to (again on the bottom clip) to soften the transition. Also sometimes use a blue grad on bottom clip so it fades towards horizon but goes behind the foreground action ... how do you do it?

That'd be swell. Thanks!

jdanstan,

I think I do something similar but a different approach. I used a luma key on the duplicate clip to pull just the sky and drop out everything else, then just CCd the sky. Do you think that sample I posted above needs any more work? I personally can't tell the 2nd one was "fixed" and I don't see any "edges" just curious if anything sticks out for you (since I didn't use a blur like you listed).

No looks goof. You or your NLE might be better at keying stuff out than I, so doesn't look like blure necessary. Can't tell.

You MIGHT ... MIGHT mind you, want to see if you could get the sky a little more contrasty, since the restof the image is, but not sure -- looks good as is.
