Bob Diaz - Mod for the HMC40 section

I heard it through the grapevine that the hmc40 section needed a mod, and that Bob would be the perfect choice for this.

I agree... :)

I haven't asked him yet, so hopefully he agrees as well since I've already modded him for the hmc40 :)

welcome, Bob...

Later,
Jason

Jason, this could end badly... :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG):2vrolijk_08:

I'll do my best...

P.S At least I got to keep the title, "The Professor".

i looked at the title and thought this was a thread for modifications lol

ha! i seocnd that

bob, koodos man!
now, all those hours spent in the HMC40 forum actually paid off!

now, get to work
there's lots to STICKY, threads to delete, people to ban!

enjoy.

Yeah, I thought Bob had gone radical with his HMC40 and was going to offer up modding tips too!

Congrats, or condolences (whichever is more appropriate), Bob!

I'm thinking about what Stickies and FAQs might prove to be helpful. I'll have to try some of the features with some test threads to see how they work.

might I suggest:

make your "compare hmc40 to other cameras" thread a sticky

create the following threads and make them sticky right away:
-scene file settings
-HMC 40 tips and tricks
-3rd party accessories (wide-angle adapters, microphones, etc)
-Mac editing techniques
-Windows editing techniques

I'm sure whatever you decide to do will be great!

OK, I'm thinking out loud here ...

On one hand, I don't want to create too many stickies, but one the other, I do see the need to cover the more common things. My guess is that 5 stickies is about the right number. Here's a list of possible things:

> FAQ: Key Information On The HMC40 (Mostly for beginners & those looking)
> Berry Green's First Look at the HMC40
> Which Memory Card?
> Which Wide Angle Adapter?
> Which XLR Adapter?
> Which Mic?
> Scene File Settings
> MAC Editing
> PC Editing
> Tips & Tricks
> Compare the HMC40 To Other Cameras Here

As you can see, my list is WAY too long for just 5 items. Using some of the categories suggested by, ShugPro would help to shorten the list. Here's may smaller list:

> FAQ: Key Information On The HMC40 (Mostly for beginners & those looking) Have this point to Berry's review. I'm thinking this will be a locked thread that I add to and things come up. It could point to other threads of interest.
> HMC40 Hardware (Memory Cards, XLR, Mic, Wide Angle Adapters,...)
> Tips & Tricks (Including Scene File Settings)
> MAC Issues (Includes editing)
> PC Issues (Includes editing)
> Compare the HMC40 To Other Cameras Here

As you can see, that covers all the major things, but it's 6 stickies, not 5. By dropping the MAC & PC, the list would go to 4 stickies and any MAC and/or PC issues would come and go. The FAQ could point to the threads about MAC & PC.

Here's your chance to offer you ideas before I set things up.....

I'm not a fan at all of lots of stickies (and 5 is a lot). They clutter the top of the page when it loads. I think they should be limited only to things where the need is almost universally obvious and absolutely utterly compelling. I don't think anything suggested thus far really warrants a sticky.

About the only thing that really makes much sense for a sticky at this point, in my opinion, might be a sticky for "Working with the Bundled Edius Neo Software" and I'm not really keen on that even.

Take a look at the 150 forum. There's one sticky, and the last post there was in Oct.

The same sub-forums as the 150 forum has could work well. I think that would be vastly superior to having roughly a half dozen of the stickies suggested.

I think 3rd party comparisons ought to be a sub-forum, not a sticky. WAAAYY to many current and up/coming models to have in 1 stickied thread.

All I know, is that it would be a really nice thing to have a place where we could all share specific settings.

These are merely opinions. and we know what opinions are akin to...

I strikes me that "comparing to other cameras" is most properly a topic for a regular thread. It's the sort of thing that is pretty interesting to a lot of folks right now, since the HMC40 was only recently introduced, so naturally it begs for comparisons to the other cams out there, but will almost assuredly become of lesser and lesser interest after the HMC40 has been out for awhile and does become better known (eventually just plain isn't a new thingy anymore).

I could see a sub-forum on settings making some sense, but again, I'm not real whipped on running head-long down a path that can easily wind up leading to the forum getting all cluttered up with lots of stickies and lots of sub-forums either. Let's walk, rather than run. Less is often more.

Bob... one thing we've started taking to a bit lately is to create a master sticky... that way you can have one sticky that links to all the other threads that you want to keep prevalent, as opposed to having an individual sticky for each of those threads.

i.e.

"Sticky Database Thread" or whatever you want to call it... inside would be.

Link to vs. thread.
Link to.... etc, etc.

and you could include little descriptions of each thread.

So, you might find if you create one sticky and think of it as a table of contents for the other important threads you want to highlight, you can keep everything visible that needs to be without creating an entire page worth of stickies :)

laer,
Jason
