BNC...broadcast quality???

I dont' know where to ask this question...about a Sony VO-5800 3/4 Umatic editing recorder.

Will this piece of equipment do me any good? I'm thinking if it's good enough for broadcast, is it really that good? Or do I chalk this up to an antique and my PC with after effects on DVD is better quality.

I have a PC, an XL2, and hopefully someday an XH-A1 (which has uncompressed BNC out, does this help?).

I have the opportunity to buy one for $50. Money is tight though. Have to make a quick decision.

Thanks guys.

Not worth it.

Though Some (very very few) places still send stuff out on 3/4", and most TV stations still have a 3/4" deck kicking around somewhere "just in case", beacuse they haven't been able to get rid of it. It's a long dying format.
BETA-SP overtook 3/4" as the broadcast standard a couple of decades ago and moved the "Broadcast Quality" standard up to component video. 3/4" is somewhere between VHS and S-VHS in quality.

As far as 3/4" decks go, that's a prety poor one, it only displays mins & secs in the counter, not even full timecode.

A pretty good clue as to the ages of that gear is the comment "Clean edits with...", a clean cut is hardly a feature to sell in a edit deck today.

A BETA-SP deck would do you a lot more good and can be found for a little more $.

Thanks bud, I've canceled the offer. Feel bad doing so, but don't have the money or the space to spare.

Thanks for answering.
