GH4 BMCC Speedbooster & GH4

You shouldn't scratch the sensor. After all the distance between the mount and the sensor is the same. However, there's internals to consider that could be fouled, such as shutter curtain, electrics and generally just the internal plastics.

I'd like to see some test footage with the BMCC SB and a ultra wide lens like the Tokina 11-16mm to be sure that it doesn't vignette. I'd also like to see an A/B comparison between the regular MFT SB and the BMCC SB. Here's to hoping that someone reading this forum has both versions and some free time!

The Metabones SB Nikon G/F to MFT has worked perfectly with my AF100's. It should work fine with the GH4 too right?

I was walking my dogs when UPS came by & B&H puts a 2-day block on pick-ups (I assume because of people snatching tickets off doors), so I now have to wait until tomorrow for my GH4. I'll test this as soon as I get it though.

The Tokina 11-16mm only works @ 16mm with a BMCC and BMCC-edition Speedbooster, even then there's vignetting (but manageable). I assume the same or worse in 4K mode on the GH4. I'll let you know tomorrow.

Just tested...I wish I could post stills but I can't figure out a way to convert this stupid RW2 format.

The rear glass comes VERY close to the sensor. I don't know if I'll do this again.

Tokina 11-16 works without showing barrel in all video modes (4K-1080p). It has vignetting in the wider focal lengths & in stills mode shows barrel in the corners at 11mm.

Thanks for posting! Any more details? Why won't you try again? Do you think you damaged the sensor? Please do post if you have any images, I think many if us are considering this exact combination.

It actually looks fantastic. I just felt like the rear glass was extremely close, maybe even touching the sensor. I'll probably buy the regular MFT Speedbooster if I stick with this camera.

I think you'd have to be extremely careful every time you mount it on there. Also, as stated in the EOSHD article, definitely switch to electronic shutter...I'm pretty sure the mechanical shutter would hit the adapter on the way down.

Anyone know how to open the GH4's raw format in Photoshop?

You may be able to change the metadata but the profile won't be optimized. Alternatively use the included copy of SilkyPix (yuck) or for simple tasks have the camera process the Raws to Jpegs.

"In-Camera RAW Data Development:
Shoot RAW photos and process the images in-camera to create JPEG images, instead of relying on post-processing. You can adjust the color space setting (sRGB / AdobeRGB), white balance, noise reduction, sharpness, and hue. Lumix's Photo Style, Intelligent D-Range Control, and Intelligent Resolution can also be applied."

Thanks for doing that test! I have the Metabones SB MFT-to-Nikon and there's no vignetting with my Tokina 11-16mm on the GH4 even at the wide 11mm end. Too bad that it vignettes with the BMCC-specific SB, but good to know.

Just to update...the BMCC Speedbooster will potentially put a permanent scratch on the shutter housing which sits a few mm's above the sensor (see attachment). It's good to know that it's unlikely for the SB rear glass to hit the sensor though.

To be honest, I'll probably keep on using this one instead of forking over $400 for the MFT version. Especially since it's compatible with my BMCC & BMPCC.

It would be great of someone has both the BMCC and BMPCC SB's and can tell us how much deeper the rear glass extrudes on the BMPCC version. I have put my BMPCC SB on my GH for about a minute or two and I got the same crop circles inscribed on them as Ryan has above. But it didn't seem to bend that shutter housing back - that is with the limited time I had it attached to my GH4.

if that's just a cosmetic scratch and is caused by a metal part and not the actual glass in the speedbooster, it's a very minor problem

now, for some math, to see if this helps me warm up to the GH4...

* the sensor is 17.3mm wide, which means a 2.08x crop factor (I always use the horizontal measure only; it doesn't make sense to recalculate the crop factor if I crop the image vertically, say, for a 2.35:1 finish)
* the sensor is 4608 pixels wide, which means 2.34x crop factor shooting 4096 and 2.50x crop factor shooting 3840
* the standard speedbooster is 0.71x which makes those crop factors 1.66x and 1.77x
* the BMCC speedbooster is 0.64x which makes those crop factors 1.50x and 1.60x

The GH4 with a BMCC speedbooster plus Tokina 11-16, Sigma 18-35, Sigma 50mm Art, and Samyang 85mm, is a very compelling <$5K set.
In FF equivalent for FoV and DoF, that would be a 18-26mm f/4.5, 29-56mm f/2.8, 80mm f/2.2, and 135mm f/2.2.

Has anybody tried these lenses with a m43-to-Nikon speedbooster?
