welcome to the club...i just discovered this problem the night before i had to shoot an album release party performance.

my bars are green and i don't even get to see the picture. it's just green bars over black screen, however, audio comes in loud and clear.

i'm in the middle of a feature and have not had time to even take it somewhere to have it looked at.

luckily i only shoot on p2 cards, but sucks to know that a major function of the camera just suddenly stopped working properly.

where did you buy your hvx from?

I'm also having this problem too. Sad to say after cleaning the cam using minidv cleaner still no avail. So after that day I used p2 all the time. Since then I didn't get any of the blue lines.

Sounds like a badly clogged head to me, when you have downtime, take it to a service center for professional cleaning.

Best,

jan

i'm going to try and take mine in to have it looked at sometime next week. i'll report back here whenever i get an explanation and what needs to be done.

jan what's the worse case scenario that would produce these bars or all black image with bars?

If you have used different brand tapes on your camcorder without using a tape head cleaner, you will encounter this kind of problem. Best is to stick with same brand of tape.

In Panasonic's defense, I've seen the same thing on a Canon HDV camcorder right out of the box. It is frustrating, though.

Be sure to try a head cleaning tape yourself, it's a lot simpler than sending it in for service.

not sure about the rest of the guys, but i've tried head cleaner and only had one pack of tapes since i bought the camera and this happened out the blue.

i've probably shot to tape a total of 5 or 6 times since i had the camera. everything else works perfect.

I have had a very bad head clog after a sigle tape playback. I suggest that you take it into a Panasonic warranty service shop and have them take a look. I may just be a very bad head clog from a bunch of gung on the tape. This happens on occasion. It is not a matter of how many hours, sometimes it is just a funky tape.

As far as what is the worst case scenario, would be a blown head but I can't image with as few hours as you have had that this would even be the case. Just take it in and have them professionally clean it.

Best,

Jan

Having this same problem on my 200a :( have tried multiple head cleaners to no avail. Blue bars on playback and even when recording to a fresh tape. Tape mode does not have a lot of hours at all.

Can anyone recommend a good place to send my cam for head cleaning that won't cost an arm and a leg?
