A few off the top of my head, some are coming I think:

1. Mad Max
2. To Live and Die in LA
3. The French Connection
4. Repo Man
5. Jaws
6. Munich, yeah, I was looking for that one the other day.

I'd say Star Wars, but screw it, Lucas has got enough of my $$ already in various formats/incarnations. I'm gonna sit this one out.

Most others are there for me already.

I would prefer that our cable operator just keeps adding on-demand HD services (at rather astonishing speed) like they've been doing for the past year. I don't want a BD player. I want a set-top HD box that's connected to NetFlix. It's coming...

That said...

The Conformist, which apparently never made it to DVD.

At some point every single film ever made will be digitized and offered on HD (5-10 years?) on demand. I personally still like the tangibility of owning my blu-rays. Never seen the conformist and will have to rent it.

I'd like to see the Star Wars original trilogy and the Raiders movies. Having Crystal Skull on Blu-Ray is just not that enticing.

If you find a way to rent it, let me know, because I don't think it was ever released on DVD. I did get to see it properly in Westwood about twelve years ago.

1. Lord of the Rings Trilogy (tied with) Lawrence of Arabia
Both should look amazing in HD, especially Lawrence of Arabia which was shot on 70mm. I've heard rumors as well that work has already begun on a Lord of the Rings HD box set which is supposed to have tons of new extra BTS features that we haven't seen yet.

2. Alien and Aliens
The two films that caused me to become interested in filmmaking. Alien 3 is pretty good but not in the same league, so it gets an honorable mention. I would get that one later on. I can't stand Alien Resurrection or Alien vs. Predator.

3. Apocalypse Now Redux
A visually stunning film with that has some of my all time favorite cinematography.

4. Avatar
I can't wait for James Cameron's upcoming December 2009 all digital 3D epic, which in theory should look freaking amazing in HD.

5. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
I loved this film and the visuals were amazing.

6. Zardoz
Yeah I like this weird movie, so go ahead and laugh at me. I would love a super duper special edition of this, but it will probably never happen, if a Blu-ray version at all.

7. Akira Kurosawa's Dreams
This is a beautiful film that consists of 10 short films based on a variety of Kurosawa's dreams that he experienced from a young age into later adulthood. They range from peaceful to nightmarish.

8. The Duellists
This is a great low budget period drama with an intoxicating atmosphere. Also Ridley Scott's first feature.

9. Saving Private Ryan
Since we were recently blessed with an excellent Blu-ray set of Band of Brothers it is only natural to wish that Saving Private Ryan will hopefully come sooner rather than later.

10. Valkyrie
This was a well shot and tense thriller that I'll be buying on day one.

11. Battlestar Galactica (new re-imagined series) ??????
Someday I would love to get this. Since I already have the DVD sets of the whole series except for the upcoming Season 4.5, I am not really sure I would like to spend the money on it for at least a few years. Add to that the fact that the DVD's look great up-converted and Universal still hasn't released any of it in Blu-ray yet.

Some other anticipated titles: Original Star Wars Trilogy (not the special editions of the old films that we know Lucas will release first), Indiana Jones Trilogy, Mad Men Season 2, The Matrix Trilogy (already out), Blade Runner (already out), Barry Lyndon, Escape From New York, The Fog, Children of Men (on HD DVD only).

Alien and Aliens would look amazing on HD. As far as TV series hbo epitafios, carnivale & sopranos.

I'm not too worried about Alien, but Aliens has a lot of grain. James Cameron even stated that due to the way it was shot and the film stock used it has a grainy print. I hope they don't do too much noise reduction though. I'd rather have some grain than loose resolution. What would be the point of a Blu-ray Aliens if the image is soft?

4. Avatar

No theory about it. Heck, the test footage is freakin' amazing.

I'm wishing for Casablanca in a non-hyperpriced-with-lotsa-stuff-I-don't-want package, Lawrence of Arabia, The Good Thief, Star Wars Epps. III and IV, A Fistfull of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and the original Star Trek tv series.

Hey, you're working on Avatar aren't you? I remember you talking a little about it quite a while ago. That film is taking forever, which is not a bad thing because I believe it is a good thing to make the best film you can. If it takes a long time to make something great so be it. Plus this is James Cameron playing with bleeding edge technology and he's doing sci-fi again. I'd drive to the theater during a nuclear armageddon to see this.

I know you can't talk too much about the film yet, so the only question is, should I wear a diaper to this incase it is just that awesome?

As for the Blu-ray's I can't believe I forgot about the Sergio Leone stuff. I have the bare bones Casablanca HD DVD as one of the 5 free movies deal that came with my XB360 player. If you do have an HD DVD player you might find that version for really cheap. My local Fry's Electronics was trying to get rid of HD DVD's for $7 a pop.

I was, some months ago. On to other projects, since.

Well...I'm sure hoping that it turns out to be that awesome. I think it's a possibility. The new Samsung has connectors for 3-D glasses; when Avatar eventually makes it to blu-ray I guess there will be a use, for them...

I waited until the dust settled, and then ordered a blu-ray player (a few days ago, in fact).

Weird note - the present release of the original Star Trek is on dual-burned discs that can play either as standard-def DVDs or as HD-DVDs. No use to me, but if'n anyone has an HD-DVD player than might be worth knowing.

One of the reasons I loved the HD-DVD format. Most of my HD DVD's can be played on my Xbox HD DVD player or on another player in SD. Which still looks great when upscaled to 1080p.

I have Blu-ray as well. Wish Blu-ray discs had that dual option for other rooms in the house. :(

Yeah they came out last fall I believe, in the combo format. One side is DVD while the other side of the disk is HD DVD. Personally I don't like double sided discs. I think these are rare since HD DVD's demise, so are probably collector's items by now. They were pretty expensive when they came out too.

The good news is that Blu-ray players are coming down in price. By next holiday season they should be very affordable and some downright cheap.

A lot of regular old DVD's can look almost Blu-ray quality when upscaled. Obviously some don't but there are many that fool me if I am sitting at a normal viewing distance from the TV, or the difference is so minor that I can't justify the cost of replacing that many DVD's with a Blu-ray.

What's not to love? I can grab the disc and play it on any DVD player in the house. :)
Helps when you have kids as well and you want them on the same floor.

Agreed. Some look fantastic!
