Bloom: 7D & 5dmkII TESTED on BIG SCREEN for Lucas. Shot / Tested at Skywalker Ranch!

Great news and congrats to you on that! I am downloading the uncompressed file from XR now and I also have a project coming up where I'd like to assess the 7d/5d vs other formfactors. Anyways, keep up the inspirational work Phil!

ILM should put Tramm on the payroll.

In regards to all those debates I had about whether the MKII was film projection worthy I now feel vindicated .

Where is the dreaded aliasing problem I keep hearing about? I can't see it. Am I missing something? The images looks spectacular to me...

Seriously, can someone explain how this a big problem?

Not entirely off-topic: The ultimate "Star Wars Phantom Menace" movie review:
http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/12/17...video-review-of-star-wars-the-phantom-menace/

Caution: Don't watch this 70-min. video review if you're humor-challenged. :-)

One of the funniest things I have ever seen about Episode I and Star Wars in general. However, the bizarre sideshow of pretending to be a rapist/murderer makes even less sense than the crap he makes fun of in Star Wars.

Perhaps some of the most relevant stuff in there to this thread is where George Lucas (back in the 70s or 80s) is talking about how VFX are a tool and mean nothing without story. Prophetic George.

Wow. Just wow. Awesome.

Wouldn't doubt it- this firmware does indeed exist and I see no one more likely to receive it as a beta unit than Lucas.

I loved this film, especially the star fields in time lapse, this really shows the low light capabilities of the DSLR's.

That's some of the best DSLR footage I'v seen. The fact that most of it was shot in natural light on some overcast days is even more impressive.

Nice Work

Not to impugn the extreme eliteness of Bloom's getting to meet and present footage for these guys, but I will say I'm somewhat at a loss as to why exactly they'd be interested. For someone like me--a student and an amateur with little money--the 7D is a godsend. It's better than anything else in its price range for image quality (HMC40, FX7, FX1), and if you're already used to DSLR shooting and have a few lenses (also me), that's even better. It's also good for such assignments as the National Geo one (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=202709) where hardiness of build quality, small form, etc. are important. But Lucas doesn't fall into either category. He'll never be shooting with a small (or even medium sized) crew, so it's not like he can't have lots of big, expensive equipment around, whether he's shooting in-studio (most likely) or on location. If he needs something smaller, the RED Scarlet will be out in a few months, and the RED One's already out, and there's no question that the quality is better -- and you have the same option of high-quality glass that you have with the 7D or 5DmkII. (They aren't as small, but if Lucas needs to get in a tight space, like a car or something, I'm sure he'd have the budget to take off a door or rebuild it [as they did for Mann' Collateral], so a huge camera like the HDWF900 could be fit in--so really, that's not a serious issue.)

Maybe Phil Bloom can shed some light on this. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, Lucas and co. have no grand plans but were just curious where the technology stands
