"Bloody Mary: A nightmare Collaboration by Mark Harris and Timur Civan"

Oh, I had to stop watching for a minute to add something that I forgot...

GREAT WORK BY YOUR ACTRESS!!!!!!!!

She was great!

Wow!!!! You guys did just about everything right on this one. Very inspiring.

I'm not a big fan of the super softness that the DVX and adapter can bring, but it adds a real 70's-Horror style that only adds to the mood.

EDIT: Great cinematogrpahy, Great editing, great shot selection and pretty damn good acting. The music creeped me out.

Great job again guys.

Bloody Mary

Script
Great script. Good subject matter! Everyone knows the game, “Bloody Mary”

Acting
Wow, everyone was perfectly cast, your lead was terrific. The only knock on the acting is I think she seemed too psychotic at the very end, maybe a little more scared/terrified would be in order.

Cinematography
Whoa! The look of this film knocked my socks off! Totally stylized, and different, but it totally worked. It had it’s OWN look, and it rocked! Amazing amazing work.

Editing
Fluid, no problems here, liked most all of your choices.

Score
Wow! Herman had been telling me about this score, and I was excited to hear it. All I can say is he hit another one out of the park, great work!

Overall Impressions

This film will be in my top three, no doubt. This film kicked butt on so many levels. I was also seriously freaked out during this one (which doesn’t happen often). Great job!

Review | POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT! I watch the movies first time around strictly for enjoyment, second and third for review.

Let me say that this felt like a horror movie throughout. It reminded me of Carrie a lot, appealed in a 70's horror sort of way like said before. Nice work.

Script - Definitely felt like a solid concept. The daughter of Bloody Mary. Haven't seen it too often which makes the take an original one on the lore. I honestly think that the beginning could've been sliced out completely, and you could've started with the title and still had the same exact impact. From the beginning you get to see she's an outcast. Okay. But if she is why is she in a room with the other girls? We didn't get info on that. Is she in a boarding school? At a sleep over?

Direction - Great Frame-ups. I liked the Production Value. Dolly out from the door near the end as Mr. Man gets it was fine by me. Worms-eye shots were nice as well. Overall pretty good choice. I have to say my favorite scene is the dialogue between the guy and the gal on the staircase. Handled very well.

Acting - Your chic's crazy. She's a good one. And those three girls at the beginning were actually playing off of each other really well. They do a good job of being mean chics. The male actor was creepy and delivered lines nicely. I didn't like his exagerrated head roll, but otherwise, good job on all acting fronts.

Cine/Lighting - Timur you rocked the Microphone, figuratively speaking. Awesome lighting. Sorry the compression softened it but it looks great to me, man. Shadow play, composition. It's all there. You're high up on the list for Best Cine if not the best I've seen so far.

Editing - Seemed like it had to be really chopped down to the six minutes. I think, personally, you really had enough time to work it down to less than five in the cutting room, but that's just me. Editing could be tightened later, though.

Sound - 70's horror. The soundtrack fits the visuals for me. I have no qualms about it. The voices weren't hollow, but sounded pretty much right on. No peaks or lows, smooth sailing.

Special Effects - Bloody Mary looked pretty gross. I wanted to reach into the screen and comb her nappy hair. Blood work was sticky, some too bright for my tastes (in the bathtub) but otherwise, sweet.

Scariest Moments - I don't like when lights go out. So every time they went out I wasn't too happy.

Overall consensus - Great work from you guys. I'm not up for Man-Hole at all (Not my thing) but this shows versatility. Timur your lighting is as good as everyone praises you for. I love it. Keep up the good work dudes! And thanks for the lesson.

Thanks, but no worries. Most great DP's aren't good at human being like responses anyway :) .... in which case, judging by the work you do, you're more than allowed. :)

Yes, yes, and yes, at various times. This is one of those things that is hard to compress into the short, but is part of the idea going into the feature script, which I wanted to get in.

Thanks for the detailed comments guys. I love how much effort everyone is putting into watching these. I have to sign off to do some actual work for a client (gasp!) so I likely will not get back to these or my second pass and comments until later on tonight.

I'm glad you said this. This was one of the main reasons I did the contest.

If you happen to have an extra $1 million laying around, you won't have to wait long...:)

As a matter of fact I...don't. :(

On a serious note are you familiar with the tax credit that is allowed investors on $1million+ movies? It's buried deep in the jobs creations act of 2004 (?).

I don't want to hyjack this thread so PM me if you have any questions on it. I haven't dug to deep into it, but it looks interesting.

Best,

Jason

Wow! Twisted & sick...!
Everything looks professional and the story is tight despite the mixed reality-flashback cuts. Oh and music perfectly scored on the film. Congratulations.
