Blender anyone? What can I do with this?

Damn, this makes me want to glue two pie tins together and find my fishing line.

Great accidental work there, Hudson!

John,

I just started learning Blender myself, for 3d compositing and greenscreen with the DVX, and it really is a great piece of software. One thing I might suggest is looking at one of the free 3d model sites (I really like TurboSquid) to download some models (everying from chairs to spaceships to full-on environments) that can be imported into your scene. That way you don't have to do everything from scratch.

Good Luck!

I checked this out...doesnt seem "free" at all...am I missing something?

Looks impressive enough...

but..

I always thought its better to create 3D models and stuff with Splines instead of Polygons...cuz polygons involve more tools to mesh them around and stuff...i wonder why the proffesionals dont use spline based modeling..?

I found this, I hope it helps you out a bit John.

eh, polygon modeling is the way to go. the polygon modeling tools in most apps, especially XSI (version 5 which just came out has a new poly tool that rocks!) are amazing, combine that with subdivsion surfaces...i dont think i have made a nurbs/spline model in years...i used to be a nurbs man, but i totaly converted...polys are great.

john, check out...http://www.3dcadbrowser.com/browse.aspx every model is only 10bucks...its sick, some of those models are pretty high rez. you sign up for a 50 dollar account wich gets you 5 models.

also check out...www.3dcafe.com and on the right side click "free stuff" every model in that section is free...you dont even have to register to download...alot of them are cheesy, but there are some gems.

Dude, a "young adult" such as your self shouldn't be able to fry my brain like that!

Splinzy whatzy?

lol

Splines..its an alternate way to modeling instead of Polygons.

ok..it works like this

Polygons....are defined shapes....some programs use them and combine Polygons together to create a shape

example...look at the sphere in John's picture...you see those little like griddy things? those are polygons

There are many more tools needed in a program that uses Polygons because you have to mesh the polygon shapes and stuff..

With Splines...there are no Polygons...so its just a smooth shape...no riggidity polygons....which ever way you mesh a spline..it will always be smooth..with Polygons its different.

...but im just a basic at CGI at the moment...so I'm still learning alot more...if anyone knows something else i dont...please correct me.

Well i tried various programs that involve Polygons...they were too complicated...i think Splines are easier...but....why is it Polygons are more widely used??

let's let polygons be polygons
