BlackMagic - URSA Mini

Dont forget the 30% price drop around that time. I waited months and months for mine and about a month after I finally got it, they dropped the price by $1,000. Naturally this was just outside of my return window....

Good stuff.

Yep. They announced the price drop just as they were catching up on pre-orders... I would have liked being able to take advantage of that price drop, but they waited just long enough to catch up on pre-orders, apparently. It's not a well-liked company, due to how they treat their customers, their popularity is driven entirely by their low prices. Even their vendors don't much like dealing with them, but put up with them due to their prices...

Fortunately for them, I can't see any other company announcing a camera that's comparable to URSA Mini in specs and price during NAB. If some reliable company DID announce a camera like that and promised to release it in July, Blackmagic could be in trouble. Anyway, I'm waiting until NAB before I buy a new main camera, at least I can take advantage of the price drops if nothing else. No point buying a new camera two months before NAB.

That's the only reason people are willing to wait for the Ursa Mini 4.6K... everything comparable costs around 2x as much or more (3.g. Canon C300mkII, KineMAX, Raven).

The latest prediction is for the Mini 4.6K to start shipping now-ish. My guess is that it will take until February for them to catch up on the pre-order queue.

Is that the latest prediction? We won't be seeing the Ursa Mini 4.6K until early 2016?

B&H has removed the "Shipping in November" text and replaced it with "not available". Some of the people who pre-ordered first will get their 4.6K Minis in time for Christmas, maybe. I'd say it won't be really available until February or March. And when it finally ships properly, they will slash the price by a thousand bucks in time for NAB.

ladies and gentleman, we have a contender!

more Ursa Mini 4.6K footage.

This is the camera many of us have been waiting for. Well done Black Magic!

"Shot on the Blackmagic Design Ursa Mini 4.6k - EF
All in ProRes 422 1080p - some shots in 60fps, some in 120fps
The intention was to create a natural and realistic grade - the natural light was very bleak and foggy.
This grade was achieved in just 3 nodes.
Everything filmed with the Samyang 35mm 1.4 Lens."

I just placed an order because of a good black Friday deal in Sweden (10% off, which is nice since it really never ever is gonna be cheaper until sometime after release, unless BMD themselves slashes the price), Ursa 4,6k mini EF is "the" camera I've been waiting for and the footage seems promising.

Even with the 10% off, it's still way more expensive than in the UK. 5400 euros vs. 4985 euros at CVP.

Yupp, but with sales tax that is 25% and deductible for me it is OK for me, more like 4300 euros cost for my company. The hassle for dealing with UK tax and whatnot isn't something I like to spend too much time on either. So if I would buy it as a private citizen and not company it would make sense to look at for example UK or Germany (in general they are a bit cheaper and no customs fee/tolls).

What do you think about the 4.6K version?
I'd like to see it in 4K (or, 2.5K at least, because most any video will look better when downsampled) without the highlights being blown out and with both the Raw and the graded footage. It seems, as with any camera, there are the early adopters who are willing to suffer from the growing pains and then there are folks who have more patience and more interested in learning from the trials and tribulations of others.

My expectations from any BMD product is that it will perform remarkably well under perfect circumstances but might have more than its fair share of quirks. Once those are solved, it should prove to be a solid unit, provided its quality control is superior to some their previous launches.

Very, very nice images out of this camera. I like how the colors are punchy without a heavy bottom end. All this on an overcast day. Many cameras would fail in these conditions. I am kind of hung up on the actual size of the unit though. I sold all of the 2/3" tanks and now this thing comes along... The specs and images are enough to consider charging up the Anton Bauer batteries!
