BlackMagic - URSA Mini

When was the original release date? July 2015? And then it got pushed back. No surprise there. For a while B&H was saying November 2015. Now it just says "Coming Soon."

Yes. I would expect the 4.6K version to release around January-February time. And then they will announce a new camera with internal ND filters at NAB.

If they stay true to form, we'll see the 4.6K Ursa turrets showing by Christmas, the 4.6K Ursa Minis will start shipping around February or March, and at NAB they'll announce a $1000 price drop on the Minis along with a dozen new products, one of them most likely being a Mini variant with internal NDs... ETA July 2016, actual shipping November/December 2016...

The Raven's sensor is a fair bit smaller than BMD's 4.6K sensor, and the camera's going to cost more than 2x as much to be functional. Plus... it's limited to an EF mount. I was thining about it, until I discovered that part; I wouldn't be able to use any of my PL mount or Nikon or Alpha mount lenses on it. :-/

Not exactly released is it? You must be new here hahaha...

Im thinking the raven will come out right around the time people get the 4.6 version of the mini. And the PL arguement is going to mean less now that even companies like angenieux are making interchangeable mounts on their new lenses. Now if you plan on using like kowa anamorphics or really expensive vintage glass on your mini more power to you. Also all cameras end up costing more than the base core, I think by the time you get the accessories needed for the mini the price is also going to rise. Just saying the raven is what the man asked for... 4.5k light weight good form factor, oh and the bonus of redcode+prores at the same time @@
Also am I wrong or hasn't BMD been terrible at getting products out on time?

To say that BMD has been terrible about getting products out when they say they will is putting it mildly.

When they launched the BMCC, they said July, started shipping in January, and were still behind at the next NAB show. There, they announced two new cameras, and yet didn't bother even mentioning the mft models of the original bmcc which weren't shipping yet.

RED is a safe bet, i know people hate, but one of the things you pay for is getting into the red ecosystem of upgrades and trade ins.. NO other company does that.. For example im sure the Raven will be able to be upgraded much the way Scarlet to Epic to Weapon goes..I know a lot of guys like BMD..just saying @@

All the Red upgrade program does is allow you to bypass genereal public lines for new models and I guess you don't have to go through selling your older model but you also can't control the amount you get as its set by Red. It is no different than selling your camera and using that money plus 'upgrade fee' to purchase a new camera.

Dont forget the 30% price drop around that time. I waited months and months for mine and about a month after I finally got it, they dropped the price by $1,000. Naturally this was just outside of my return window....

Good stuff.

yah. NAB is coming right up, and disapointment does happen around that time. I'm sure RED will announce its next upgrade right when the Raven comes out also, but at least you will be able to upgrade.. makes sense
