Blackmagic press conference on Thursday, March 2nd, 12.00pm PST

I wish they made a little one with a MFT mount...maybe the URSA Micro PRO...so I can use some of the super fast f/.95 lenses out there (stopped down a click or two) to make up for that low ISO, ha.

Voigtlanders on a pocket already look so nice.

Conceivably, they could make an MFT mount with a 1" sensor that Sony had made available to the 3rd party vendors/OEM's. It'd be sort of like a pro version of those Nikon DL cameras that was promised by the last summer but never materialized after the Kumamoto earthquake or an interchangeable lens RX-10 II/III.

That is future Go Pro territory.

Adding a new sensor to the mix is a lot of work, adding a new mount should be a piece of cake in comparison. Just keep the 4.6k sensor but put a m43 mount in front of it. the m43 throat is ~38mm, vs a sensor diagonal of <28mm on the 4.6k chip. The electronic contacts could be an issue but I'd be perfectly fine with a dumb mount with no contacts: I want it for use with a speedbooster and manual FF glass.

A dumb E mount would be awesome too: those new fujinon zooms would find a very nice home on the blackmagic. But it's probably not possible because of licencing issues.

The thing is, they don't need to make a new mount for us to get speedboosters for the ursa mini pro. Metabones can just make a speedboosted mount and you can switch the original out for that.

That would be super nice. Even better than a regular speedbooster because there's no play and no misalignment issues.

A bunch of people (namely Fotodiox) are beginning to make full-frame-to-medium-format adapters. Most are for the Fuji GFX but, I believe, some are for Pentax and Hasselblad as well. That makes me believe that whatever the popular mount is, the third party solution won't be far away.

As to the 1" vs. MFT, it's also a question of cost. BMD desires to deliver the "affordable" choice for 4K shooters and a 1" model for around $1,000 could be a big seller. Chances are that, unlike Red, BMD is not going upstream with full frame/Vista Vision any time soon.

The problem is that using a new sensor in a new body is a lot more work than putting your same old sensor on a new body: just put the 4.6k sensor on a dslr-like body with short-focal-flange mount and call it a day! The huge heatsink won't fit but well, you don't need to put all the high frame rate options the Ursa Mini has.

That would present a marketing problem - price it too low and the buyers won't buy the URSA Mini 4.6K; price it too close to Mini 4.6K and people won't buy the Pocket Cam II. The original's niche was quite well done, with the Pocket serving as an entry level Raw model but with only 1080p resolution and a 1" class size sensor. A 4.6K sensor model would have to be severely crippled - like without the Raw recording - to remain at that price point and "feature starvation" is not BMD's game.

But a Nikon DL type with the MFT mount and Raw and/or ProRes could/should stay under $2,000, which would place it far below Mini 4.6K and fighting for a spot against A6500 and GH-5.

As a side note, since the DL series had not ever been released, here were the specs given for it. A 20 MPX sensor can still do 4.6K.

the cheap one would be restricted to 4k 30 fps and 1080p 60 fps, would not have XLR, internal NDs, viewfinder (and the screen would probably be non-swivel). And it would be menu-based, without all those nice buttons. Also, batteries would probably last half an hour.

I'd be fine with it doing only 1080p, as long as the sensor is at least APS-C and the DR is as in the UM 4.6k.

I'm definitely not against 1" sensors: I've been happily shooting with an RX100 IV as my main camera for over a year now. But it's difficult to find good lenses for that sensor.
