How about:

BMD_XC20.jpg

I think Canon's XC10/15 is quite underrated. But much more importantly, it's a form factor that I find to be very usable. It DOES need some changes to reach the next tier and I don't think Canon will deliver that. But looking at BMD's products it's hard for me not to play with this "what if" scenario.

If BMD could take their 4.6 sensor, include an OLPF and NDs and shrink it down to something slightly bigger than an XC-15… Size wise I'm thinking between the XC15 and C100. I think that is a camera that would sell VERY well.

With their Micro they have shown that they do quite well at the miniaturisation game.

If they are going to use the 4.6 sensor it needs to be updated to shoot clean at >=ISO 1600 or it is a miss imho. Especially if you are going to be shooting at high frame rates.

If it only was an interchangeable lens instead of fixed.

^ Indeed. But the ad for the live stream shows a closeup of the Ursa Mini... and specifically of the mount! Plus, I don't see BM making their own lenses. So, if it's a camera, it will probably be interchangeable lens anyway.

What I'd like to get, and probably won't, is a 4.6k sensor with m43 or E mount, so I can use a speedbooster.

I could live with fixed if it was 24-150 f2.8. But then it wouldn't be S35 of course.

Once they decide on a larger sensor format it makes a lot more sense with an interchangeable mount.

Existing ops are hoping for camera improvements and new/added features via FW like a global shutter switch for the 4.6K.

URSA owners are hoping the 4.6K turret will finally arrive.

I just want to see them actually have decent looking video for the live stream! Setting expectations very low on this aspect though.

You never know what goes on behind-the-scenes...

- Maybe they are engaging in a new business model (had the broadcast stream a few weeks ago)
- Maybe they want to share now and not get lost later (even though they wouldn't)
- Maybe they don't have anything coming and want to take some of that pressure off...or share some cool little things now...and SURPRISE...here's a really big one later at NAB (8K camera)
- Maybe they are sharing news now to satisfy other companies (internal relationships/agreements)

The "rules" are constantly changing...world is moving way too fast. No right or wrong anymore really.

Does anyone actually use the Ursa Mini for professional work for broadcast, paying clients, high profile, under high pressure, once in a lifetime shoots? Any Oscar nominated docs or other high profile projects of note shot with them? I just get the impression that it is a cool, indie filmmaker and advanced hobbyist type camera, I never see them when I am out in the world shooting professionally? Was just curious.

People do...but I think it's a different generation.

Lots of older gentlemen in a position to have a once in a lifetime shoot probably don't know what an URSA Mini is. The C300s, the FS7s...super solid VIDEO cameras.

The BM is a cinema camera that plays well with ARRI and RED. More with RED because they both can have many issues and need lots of light. Give the BM light and you will see wonderful results.

Blackmagics have been used in many Hollywood films as other angles, but so have DSLRs.

Digitally, I don't think we will ever see a different 'A' cam in the majority in our lifetime again besides ARRI or RED.

Plus, the 4.6's have only now began to ship in volume (with the magenta shift to be shipped later).

I use my 4.6k for commercial and high end corporate videos regularly. Clients are happy with the results and we have never had any issues.

Any links so I can see some of the work with it? Any notes you can make about lighting for it, best ISO you shoot it at, lenses, etc.? The price certainly is appealing for it. I watched the Tom Antos videos/reviews on YouTube and it looks intriguing.

Producers who know equipment hire you as a freelancer? Or clients (such as marketing directors) hire you as a company where you're the producer/shooter, and the client often knows little to know about camera gear?
