Serious about the Canon EF shooting?

Serious about the Canon EF shooting?

I'm going to try to convince BM to lend me a camera so we can put our Canon ProLock adapter (http://optitek.org/products/mark3-kit/) in it with a speed booster and out OptiTron2 electronic follow focus (http://optitek.org/products/optitron2/) hookup wireless FF (http://optitek.org/products/optitron2-wireless-kit/). Just as an engineering exercise and proof of concept. Sounds good?
BM USA has been pretty forthcoming in the past. Unfortunately not BM HQs. Maybe this time...

If you like a camera on your shoulder, it's definitely a great one. The kit is the same one that's been available for some time.

I never bought the VF. The touchscreen is really good. I like to run around with a monopod anyway.

You told me in the C100 MKIII thread I started that it's the same sensor as the previous generation camera though. What's the native ISO? What kind of stuff do you shoot with it? Mostly lit sets or do you shoot much available light with it?

It is...what are you saying/asking me?

My comment above is referring to the VF. I never bought the VF for the 4K Mini I once had. I don't have a 4.6K. Both have the same bodies.

Native ISO for 4K is 400, but 200 looks good.

Native ISO for 4.6K is 800, but 400 looks good.

Max ISO on 4K is 800 and 1600 on 4.6K. (Both are flooded with FPN at those numbers in my experience.)

I used the 4K Mini (when I had it) with the GS for a lot of stuff outdoors, especially sports. A 400 ISO is just unusable for anything without lights.

The new URSA Mini Pro 4.6K shares the same exact sensor as the URSA Mini 4.6K.

You know there are two Minis with a different sensor, right? (now three...2 share the same sensor)

Just to clarify: Are you saying that ISO 800 on the 4.6k does NOT look as good as 400? Or were you saying that 400 & 800 both are good?

Yes, I was asking you, I should have put your name, that would have made it clearer. Wow, it would be hard to go back to sensors that are happy at ISO 400 after the ISO 850 of the C100 and C300. Disappointing. I am sure that ISO and sensitivity will be the next frontier for BMD.

Sorry, haha...I was just confused by the response below to my viewfinder post.

Yea, the low ISOs on the cameras are not ideal...

It seems like BM are heading in the right direction. The Ursa Mini Pro seems to be a much more usable camera than its predecessors. In opposite to some, I don't think it is a direct competitor to cameras like the FS7 or Varicam LT, as it can't compete in some areas that for some are critical. Of course it has other advantages, like in camera raw recording, but as the article that NorBro linked to says, there seem to be some disadvantages too, like moire in raw.
Even though the camera can't compete with some more expensive cameras directly, the price makes it an interesting option for those that don't mind spending more time on colour correction and more lighting, I guess. In the end this means more competition and better products, hopefully.

Nope! Let's hope they drop the C300 MKII to $9,999.00 and the C700 to $19,995.00 like they should. Even as a Canon owner, I am a fan of their insane price drops. It's just like real estate, you just have to know when to jump into the market.

I think Canon is trying to position the C700 head to head with the Amira, and also hasn't quite figured out yet why the C300 MKII isn't flying off the shelves. The fact that Scarlet-W has a better price/features/image quality ratio than the C700 hasn't registered on the Canon execs yet. Never mind the fact that even though the C700 ticks a lot of the right check boxes, it was a bit late coming on the heels of Helium and Varicam. UM 4.6K Pro is the second part of the one-two combo for Canon. :)

Oh look interchangeable lens mount.
Exactly what i asked for and what john brawley has been telling me as a bad idea. What. A. Dick.

Sounds like one of those "BMD doesn't offer it, so it's a bad idea" sorts of things. A macolyte kept claiming that 3D graphics hardware was a bad idea when Apple didn't offer any. Of course, Apple added a 3D graphics card no long after that...

FWIW, the 43Rumors guy still thinks that there will be an MFT camera announcement from Black Magic at the NAB'17.

Play, rewind, and fast forward are on the opposite side of the LCD screen.

They're inside as well.

Love all the usability features of this camera, like the sensible buttons and real audio pots. The actively cooled sensor block is clever. I could learn to deal with the silly audio inputs on top and CFast media.

But the native ISO is a no-go for me. It's a shame really.

Not really an option for owner/ops like me that routinely get booked based on what camera they own. Like it or not, that's the reality.

Who's it for then? People that produce their own content or indy filmmakers. Pretty cool camera and another big step in the right direction for BM. Not there yet but they are close...

It looks great. Internal NDs and swappable mounts are nice improvements. But I'd rather have had a Pocket II. The UM 4.6k was already out of my budget except as a "special project" rental, and this is $1k more. And none of the available mounts can take a speedbooster, so the FS7 can make better use of my lens set.

A real pity, because the DR of the 4.6k is just lovely. But seeing in one of the graphs in the BM site that the interior of the Ursa Mini is basically a huge heatsink makes me think a 4.6k pocket II may just not be viable yet.
