Blackmagic press conference on Thursday, March 2nd, 12.00pm PST

Except for the light needs.

Absolutely. And I don't see published specs on weight.

But this is very promising to see BMD switch to an "available now" model instead of an 8 month early announcement, as well as to see them incorporate ND filters and better ergonomics. They are certainly coming of age. Very excited to see what they continue to put out. No doubt ISO performance will be a target for them in the future. Would love to see a Pocket II now that incorporates what they are doing ergonomically now. It could actually make it a worthy m43 competitor in areas other than image. Usability, reliability, and ruggedness seem to be a much welcome new focus for them on their new line.

I have a job coming up next week that is a live situation and the awesome autofocus and ISO performance is why I rented the C300-2. I think this camera is superb, but made for different things.

For instance the C300-2 doesn't shoot raw or prores in-body or overcrank in full res like this thing does...

Now only if they'd add B4 to their Studio Cameras.

Great to have one camera that can have a long servo zoom lens (B4) for events and Canon lens for feature / EFP type work all for under $9k. Impressive.

Seems like it is now a really a camera for all uses. Its almost like a canon c300 II only 10k cheaper.

Check your math

Canon C300 MKII $11,999.00
Ursa Mini Pro $5,995.00 body, $1495.00 Viewfinder, Can't find a price yet for the shoulder mount kit but figure $500.00 should cover it? = $7,990.00?

How about "$4k cheaper"?

Ah, thanks! Look at me jumping right to the tech specs page ;) Didn't even look through the pretty pictures (odd omission from the tech spaces page though!!)

I will say 5lbs + lens + anton bauer battery + any other handles or EVF hardware etc. REALLY adds up weight wise. I love when BM is doing here but it makes me excited for their next gen Pocket Camera. I just can't handle burly cameras like this for OMB RNG. Shooting with the VaricamLT I was exhausted with a sore back after an hour.

This is definitely a killer product though. The VaricamLT at 3x the price and proprietary P2 cards is a super hard sell against this. The Varicam LT wins hands down for ISO performance but outside of that, if this camera is as reliable and rugged as they say, BMD has really delivered something special for their target audience.

Yeah, Canon's $16K price tag for the C300 MKII didn't last all that long, eh? :)

It's listed there, too...

I have to hand it to them, they are getting better and better. This is a competitively featured camera that plops right down in the middle of FS7 and C300 MKII territory for less money with some better features. Warning shot across the Japanese bows.

Feature set, overall is great
Scalable dual media recording of dual cards is genius
It's nice looking, compact and seems as if an easily shoulderable configuration will be possible
Changeable lens mounts, with B4 option is another stroke of genius, nice work. EF, PL and B4 are a good base to work from.
Specs, data rates, etc. all look impressive.
Internal Prores without getting ripped off like Sony does (is it $2k for that accessory back?) or not possible, like the Canon C300 MKII is smart and what we all want
Internal NDs! Yes! finally. But only 2, 4 and 6 stops leaves us wanting more like 8 and 10 stops like the C300 MKII. But 2, 4 and 6 are a good start. Sony does have the genius variable ND on the FS5 and FS7 MKII, which is sweet. 2, 4 and 6 is much better than using external NDs though!

Dislikes or questions
Location of the XLR inputs is goofball and looks like the engineers forgot them and then when reminded that they had to include XLR audio inputs, said, "Oh we'll just plop them here on the rear deck, there's some empty real estate". Lame, but as long as they are mated to not too noisy pre-amps, can be lived with
Is the native ISO and max ISO the same as the regular Usra mini? If so, takes it out of the running as a great doc/event/BTS camera, which is a shame. Doesn't have to be a low light king like the Varicam LT, just more like the Sony and Canon especially, usable to ISO 3200 (doesn't have to be grain free but make the grain tight and filmic like the C300 MKII)
Assume that the IR cuts in the new filter wheel take care of purple blacks and IR contamination issues?
These features and the camera look great. We'll see how the images look shortly. But why no killer roll out film shot by a name brand DP posted yet?
15 stops of latitude/DR? Is that 15 stops of "Canon C300 MKII" latitude or real, measurable, "Arri" kind of 15 stops? It will be interesting to see what testing finds. If they are shipping right away, we'll have test momentarily.

It will still be an uphill climb to get us Sony, Canon, Red, Arri and Panasonic users to lay our career on the line to shoot this camera under deadline, pressure and the need for it to work as reliably as those brand cameras generally do. In the past year, I have hopped on planes and flown to South Africa, Morocco, The Sahara, Tunisia, as well as small towns in the U.S., in the middle of nowhere. Places where if my camera went down, I would be SOL. If I had this camera and this camera decided to just not work, I would be in big trouble. I always bring a spare body but it is a cheaper DSLR, which would let me perhaps limp to the finish line compared to my A camera. Fingers crossed, the cameras I have used in all of those locations were C100 MKI, C300 MKI/MKII and Sony F5. None of the cameras stopped working, all of them worked perfectly, every time, in the cold, rain, hail and 130F in the Sahara. The screen on my Ninja Blade melted last year in the Sahara but thankfully the Blade kept recording. So when will BMD reach a point where I can buy this camera and stake my reputation and career on it as far as reliability? I hear a lot of horror stories from friends, colleagues and strangers about BMD reliability. Still.

But the feature set and specs are impressive. I hope BMD keeps getting better and better and that their reputation for being bulletproof begins to grow. Competition is good for all of us and the Japanese need the BMDs, REDs and Arris of the world to kick their butts in the marketplace in order to spur them to give us better products at a lower cost and higher quality. For every buyer who dumps their Canon, Sony or Panasonic video/digital cinema camera to buy an Ursa Mini Pro, they will get a wake up call. I look forward to the tests and reviews. This new camera definitely pushes all of the right buttons.

Yeah, Canon's $16K price tag for the C300 MKII didn't last all that long, eh? :)

Nope! Let's hope they drop the C300 MKII to $9,999.00 and the C700 to $19,995.00 like they should. Even as a Canon owner, I am a fan of their insane price drops. It's just like real estate, you just have to know when to jump into the market.

If you like a camera on your shoulder, it's definitely a great one. The kit is the same one that's been available for some time.

I never bought the VF. The touchscreen is really good. I like to run around with a monopod anyway.
