Blackmagic Intensity Pro?

Yeah, I got it and it works pretty slick.
You can capture uncompressed (when you have a fast array) or with the MJPEG codec, than a fast single disk works - I capture on a Terrabite WD " My Book" external firewire drive.

There is an external box aviable that can hold the Intensity card so you even can work with a laptop in the field.

Working together with Premiere is fine and you can watch the output on a external monitor (components or HDMI),

Monitoring while capturing is not as nice as Adobe OnLocation but at least you can see something - but don´t expect HD resolution.

I own some of the $$$ products of black magic and love the stability and high signal quality.

That MJPEG codeg is the next best thing to Cineform. We did some HD TV Documentarys with that codec and I´m quite happy with that.

By the way you can capture to Cineform codec with intensity - I wish all that would work in OnLocation.

I got my card yesterday and fired it up for the first time tonight, and yeah it records right from the component out.

I bought the same card but have a problem with it. It does not make sense to me to be shooting P2 100mbs 8 bit and then ingesting it at uncompressed 280mbs 10 bit. Thats a lot of storage space and bandwith for the same image. I spoke with black magic and they said they may have an add on to do dvcproHD nativly in the future (maybe).

I think it´s better put to use for DIRECT capturing the uncompressed stream out of the HVXs component out eg for studio work/keying...

That said I thought the component feature of the Intensity Pro was SD only...?

And: anyone using it for displaying HD via HDMI on a higher end computer TFT eg. Eizo...?

Had mine for a month trying to get it to sync with an external Sony CRT monitor. Bought the RCA to S-Video HOSA cable recommended..Never got a signal to that monitor thru the Black Magic. Just sent it out. Possibly bad card or bad breakout cable that comes with it.

David S, one of the settings I have in FCP is "Intensity 720p 24 DVCPROHD" - not sure if it does 24 only or if it's 24/60 but then the 24PN doesn't go out over firewire, either, so i think it's only variations of 24/60.

Spartacus, the component feature is HD as well as SD. Right now mine is set to take 1080i in which I've been testing for the last day. Here is a screencap of the settings it can record in:

Can anyone address quality differences between shooting 1080i to P2 and taking 1080i uncompressed through Intensity? I'm putting together some test footage myself but I'm curious to hear about the experience others have had with P2 v uncompressed Intensity.

Thanks and I believe you are right.

It will output 720/24p that came in from a card, but won't record it.

BTW, does this transcode 1080/24pa on the fly to 24P?

Not sure, but if there's a way to test it, I can try it out for somebody. I'm not sure how to do it, though.

bump...

Anyone know the answer to David's last question? I'm considering buying one of these, strictly as a monitoring solution for FCP to hook up an external monitor via component. I'm not really concerned with capture. But I wanted to know if it will monitor (real-time no nonsense) all the formats I work with. I work almost always in 720p/1080p 24fps, with source material that is either HDV or DVCpro.

It's just that their (Blackmagic's) website claims only "1080i50, 1080i59.94, 720p50 and 720p59.94" support. But MrWrOng's post up above shows different, and obviously some of you are using this for 24p monitoring? So I just want to know what the real deal is. Thanks!!
