Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

Have to disagree with you. This basic footage and the shot of the girl to my eyes looks so much more filmic than DSLR's. Even this basic stuff looks more filmic than the C300 footage I've seen, which looks like video to my eyes. But hey, if you don't like it or want it don't buy it. You made your opinion known, but there's no reason to keep trashing this after you've been heard. Take it elsewhere.

And I definitely like Brawley's tests. I'm not a huge fan of seeing super polished stuff that gives the wrong impression. Those million dollar promos that have footage that has been color corrected and sharpened are misleading. I'd rather see this stuff that's loose and uncontrolled but still a decent exposure and frame to judge image potential.

Keep posting John and thanks for sharing.

Isaac stole the words from my head- Agreed!

Here's why I out and out disagree with you:

EVERY camera looks good with thousands of dollars put behind it. Every single one. I don't want test footage from a multi million dollar set, I don't need it.

Totally agree Kholi.

If this camera can survive real world environments, it will most definitely survive a controlled set. Almost any camera on a controlled set can be made to look good, because you can adjust the lighting etc to make the best image the camera can do. In the real world your at the mercy of nature and all the variables that come with it.

Well, I guess if its a beta, they cant post more.

But all the top guns here love it. I love what Ive seen so far. { as inexperienced as I may be } so I'm a HAPPY camper.

My orders in. I'll just keep my SSD warmed and ready.

Come July ----NIRVANA, my friends-- --

! I'm lovin' it!

Manual iris ? Wouldn't you just manually pull the iris on the lens ?

Funny.

I do still have some working hand-held light meters, but I didn't see anything in the release literature about in-camera exposure measurement (beyond tethering via thunderbolt and using Ultrascope). I've seen a couple references to zebras in this thread, so I am assuming it is measuring light and displaying something about it. Is there an in camera wfm display or something other than zebras?

It would be an absolutely unbelievable offer by itself but it even comes with full copy of Resolve - it's beyond my understanding how people can complain and I'm sick of it, sick, sick, sick.

How on earth are folks finding a way to complain about this camera??? So many great images have come out of every DSLR from the GH1-5DmkII-and beyond and this thing is being offered at a great price, with great software and will offer amazing image control, for $3K I just don't see how much more one could want if you're actually interested in making a film on a low budget. I would have loved to have been able to use this Blackmagic camera on my first feature yet I never found (and still don't) much reason to complain about the great images we captured with the GH1/GH2/7D and 5DmkII -- now we just have to finish the editing...

In the end, we just have so many great options these days, and this camera looks to be a game-changer...for those who really want to make something. But folks who want to make something never let the gear stop them from doing so. This will just let us do it without compression and better DR, which will be awesome--still even if Red EPIC cameras + a set of Zeiss Super-Ultra-Master-Primes cost $99.99 folks would still complain and we'd see just as many good and bad projects as we already see today. It's just not the gear.

The lastets clip from John brings tears to me eyes.

Looks like he uploaded with a higher bitrate to vimeo. Great hope to see more !

Strange that Red talk for years and years about building a camera like this but in the end they totally failed.

Much props to black magic.

Anyone know a good dealer in Canada taking preorders? Or a US dealer that makes the border crossing as painless as possible? I would like to put my money down ASAP.

Nope. BMD website says you will have to find your own way to read the HFS drives on PC. MacDrive is excellent and inexpensive.

And Ultrascope is mac and PC.

There is about 3 months before shipping. Maybe when they find out how many peeps are pc oriented, they will have a change of heart and make a deal. A bundled buy with no media shouldn't cost much for BM. Here's keeping my fingers crossed....

Thanks for getting back to me, John, and thanks for all the time and effort that has gone into shooting, uploading, and posting about the camera.

Whenever you get the ability to post some raw footage or some TIFFs thereof, we'll be here.

When is this camera getting a forum of its own? Having 1200 posts in one thread makes for long and confusing reading...

I have to agree with ripupthehwry, the footage I seen so far is like really bad dslr footage, in fact, I haven't seen any dslr look like that. The only thing that keeps me afloat on this camera is the specs, but its also beyond me why would anyone even pre order this cam out of those clips... people are so willing to spend $3000...

Also, how will that camera work in a professional environment? It looks like a one man camera, because, I can't see any DP lighting from that monitor alone, and if you need to carry your laptop around with you, to use this camera, it's just nonsense...

Don't get me wrong, I love the specs, but the footage, its at best mundane. I have to wait and see what else can be done with it.
You are much assertive, Nuno. This is not A Catedral when FCP comes to celebrate the title there : P portuguese film institute jury is not here either ^-^ Chill out, man! You are quick to shoot over any footage when doesn't match taste of your own... RED, BCC now, what's next? : D

Sent you a PM. I saw your footage on Vimeo, looks fine, you have talent : )) So, I wouldn't say that matches the ' footage ' you place on dvxuser in less than one sole week : ) your exposure reaches reciprocity failure among a bunch of members, shows a black dot which points out the need for self-calibration before to enter in production LOL (just sayin' ;)

Yes. The high dr makes it look really Filmic. Not dof. Not sensor size.

My only qualms with the cam is i dont have lenses that are wide enough for it. But i do hope 11 is plenty enough

11 should be enough for most people. Distortion is a Different story.

To try and dodge some wrath & backlash i will preface this by saying that I'm in as soon as B&H lists it for preorder.

I think that there is no such thing as the perfect camera, and depending on the kind of work you do some of the ergonomics and feature set of the BMD camera might not be ideal. That said, it is hard to argue with the potential image quality at the price point. I say potential because there is no production version yet, and personally I find head-to-head comparisons with other cameras more useful than standalone footage.

However, it seems reasonable to perhaps look at this camera for what it represents. I think most importantly this product is a message to the big guys (the BIG camera manufacturers) that in the era of digital acquisition there is danger in product tiering. It looks as though BMD has "gamed" the camera business by combining existing non-proprietary solutions and then integrating and packaging the result at a super competitive price-point, (sort-of like they did with the hyperdrive). If everything works out as advertised (and this is still very very early), this camera will likely take a lot of business away from Sony, Canon and Panasonic.

The only things I really don't like about it now are the mic ins, the 1/4+pin tripod mount and no viewfinder. That and trying to match a "B" camera without buying another BMD.
