Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

I think the concern is noise from ISO 800 on, but John stated on cinematography.com BMD are trying to minimize it.

It's actually more to do with them still calibrating the sensor. Each sensor form the manufacture has slight differences and they have to come up with a routine that auto calibrates for each unique sensor to get the most out of it. This happens with all still cameras. Right now, they just use a generic calibration, but there are manufacturing inconsistencies which mean that the calibration isn't optimised for the individual sensor....

max sensor rates doesn't mean that camera hardware can sustain data rates ....
and if u read carefully its 100fps in global shutter mode ...
in rolling shutter mode is 30 fps....
I think you've got it reversed. Rolling shutter enables higher frame rates, and global shutter reduces the maximum rate.

@John Brawley Great to see you answering questions. This camera gets me really excited.
I wonder how the audio is stored in the BMCC when using the RAW format.
The CinemaDNG specs says on page 25: "Audio is outside the scope of the CinemaDNG file format. MXF can combine audio with CinemaDNG essence".
Also what flavor of ProRes is used? Thanks.

Not sure on audio. it's not active yet. And i'm a moving pictures guy.... !

I think ProRes will be 4:2:2 HQ...

Exactly my idea. According to the footage, ISO 320 looks like. I've seen to be mentioned they intend ISO 800, but how they will manage to be able to get it, it is a mystery to me.

That test was done with a very early build. The ISO numbers were more guesses than true indicators. Don't take those numbers too seriously.

Something like the second zacuto shootout with studio footage which shows off the dynamic range of the camera. I don't know if you could also try using twixtor with the footage to see if you could get slow motion with this combination.

John, this ties into your post...

Are you allowed to share your wish list and or deliver some wish list thoughts to those guys?

IS there any consideration for M4/3 adaptation AND... how's the battery situation going to pan out?

What about increased read/refresh to compensate for rolling shutter?

I can't really talk much about my involvement and what I'm wishing for.

They do have PL and m4/3 on "the list" but it's a fair ways away.

The rolling shutter isn't easily improved by just reading the sensor faster. You have to have a totally different sensor design (more $$)

Question for John - this seemed all shot handheld for the most part - I dont see any cmos jello, and someone mentioned it before. How's the performance in this area from your experience?

Noel.

A lot is hand held or Monopod with 35- through 135mm primes.

Bondi is mostly tripod with the Canon 15-85 and some primes in low light.

The rolling shutter is there if you look for it.

Like any other camera in this price range.

Yes. I've got time on the weekend. I'll try to do something. What do we want to see ?

jb

Point it out the car window as you drive around so we can see it's rolling shutter.
Point it at small, intricate fabric patterns so we can see it's aliasing.
Get some closeups of faces and such so we can see skin tones.
A video showing similar scenes recorded in RAW, RAW (graded), ProRes, ProRes (graded), AVID, AVID (graded) so we can compare

That's my list of things I'd like to see. Thanks again for all your work and effort, John.

I'll see what I can do.

@John Brawley, other than the obvious paucity of available real estate, is there any reason why HDMI was omitted? Cheap monitor/EVF solutions, without resorting to converters, would be ideal.

Thanks.

John, thanks for taking the time to answer questions. It's encouraging that they might be looking at an m4/3 mount later on.
I'd also love to see some more extreme movement and faces too. If you get a chance to post some high res stills, then that would be grand.
