Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

Alright, when is the B&H pre-order? Take my money already!

Will certainly try this camera out with my anamorphic glass for a shoot I have planned in the fall. If it passes the test I will be keeping it!

@John Brawley, other than the obvious paucity of available real estate, is there any reason why HDMI was omitted? Cheap monitor/EVF solutions, without resorting to converters, would be ideal.

Thanks.

It was originally HDMI, but they switched to the *better* standard of HD SDI. They weren't thinking about VF's, but other monitoring options. I think with the number's they'll sell, there will be VF makers doing HD-SDI versions.

Hey you can always stick a hyperdeck shuttle on it to convert to hdmi and backup your recording at the same time.
cheap and peace of mind.

This is why I purchased the SDI version of the SmallHD monitor. It's now a non-issue. And why I'm hesitant to purchase an EVF that doesn't have both HDMI + SDI.

For John,

Footage request: Lowlight. Street lamps. Dark interiors. Just to get a sense of how sensitive the sensor is at night. everything else looks great to me. Especially resolved detail.

Also, can you please be the tester for future camera technology? Your lack of a sensational approach to delivering information first hand makes me want this camera that much more.

Whos ordering where?

Can anyone give insight as to how Nikon lenses would work on this mount? Simple adapter and go? Any change in focal length? All Nikon glass I have is old school fully manual glass, so it doesn't require electric drive from the camera. Thanks for sharing thoughts..

Wow we are all pretty amazed by this new camera, and that's a good thing because we are letting manufacturers know what we really want.

With this in mind and hype on the side, I'm still quite concerned about the sensor size. Big sensors providing small DOF and awesome low light performance is what had many people amazed back when we started using 5D Mark II, 7D, etc. Consider how this camera's much smaller sensor affects that...

- Less light gathered, less low light performance.

- Smaller size, more DOF.

- Higher crop factor, wider lenses used, more DOF.

- Wider lenses used, slower apertures, more DOF, less low light performance.

In short, on one hand, DOF should be reduced a lot - don't be mislead by some of the long lens shots in the samples. On the other hand, we already hear they are having some trouble with noise in low light situations.

We are getting some things that we need, but let's not forget about what we got in the past. At least in my case, I think I need a bigger sensor. Small DOF and low light performance are very important to me. I do want to love this camera because it could be the perfect upgrade from my T2i without jumping to the 5k price range. But that small sensor is really annoying me!

Please do correct me if i'm wrong, I wish I am.

The news of this camera made me pretty unproductive at work today. While cameras like the FS700 definitely caught my attention, the BlackMagic is something that I can see myself actually purchasing. It has specs that would have made people say "dream on" just a few days ago. I'm in the camp that says the sensor size is just fine, but that this camera badly needs an MFT mount to go with it. The sensor size is just perfect for it. I'm glad that it's on the "wish list" though and BlackMagic seems like a company that's actually listening to filmmakers. Either way, I'm going to be saving up some dough.

There was no way that it was 13 . It looked like 9 to my eye.

Look, it is a first gen product, I'm sure that BM will be Improving it as time goes on.

Th screen might be showing something different. But in johns video that is not 9 stops. I know what nine looks like. That's not it.

Given a choice between keeping that full frame or S-35 depth of field, or losing some of that DoF and light sensitivity but gaining increased dynamic range, I'll vote for the latter.

Oh, it'd be nice to have both, but for $3,000, I'm not complaining. And besides, the DoF from a sensor just a tad smaller than an M43 isn't a bad thing.
I've shot some really nice video from little 1/3" chip cams in my day.
