Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

This camera is definitely going to be a winner with the Anamorphic crowd.

Further, now we know why Zeiss came out with a 15mm lens recently.

This is a great camera for me,BM rocking,RAW is great .even expensive C300,and FS700 are 8bit,this is 10 bit uncompressed SDI output,12bit RAW,10bit Apple prores,Dnxhd .only for 3k,the only drawback is sensor size, that is doesn't matter for this price range, any way this is great camera.....................

I wonder if Panasonic pulled there new camera announcement because of this announcement? Seems strange that there is no 2k or 4K Af100 replacement. Funny how the Af100 was the big thing last year, but then the Gh2 is what really took off instead.

Black Magic stole the show, finally a uncrippled camera!

I bet BM updates with new models very rapidly, just look at all the damn Thunderbolt break out boxes that they are making when the first batch just shipped.

It would be a nice if they could make a micro four thirds mount though, my Voigtlander Nokton 25mm wasn't cheap.

This BMD cam still has its cripples. But it did indeed steal the show.

Like on purpose software cripple? Like what?

Can it really do 60P but BM won't allow it? Or 4K but BM is holding it back?

Will we need to hack the BMCC to unlock its full potential? Or will BM ship it uncrippled?

The humor is not lost on me.

That is exactly what Blackmagic is saying, on the show floor; when I asked the rep on the floor what the sensor size was he said (and I quote) "Four Thirds." But the released specifications show that it isn't Four Thirds at all. I don't know why they're saying Four Thirds; maybe they don't know what else to call it? But yeah, it's not 4/3.

Very, very close though - 233.62mm2 for the Blackmagic versus 224.9mm2 for 4/3" (albeit for the 'full sensor' rather than just the 'active' area).

Like the simple fact that it's EF mount and ZE(or nikon) mount only at the moment. THats one, and one big one. No Hdmi (for the DSLr target market)? Theres 2.

Barry said it best.

I would be interesting if they added a 2592 x 2192 shooting mode or a 2,000x2,000 mode.

The mount thing is subjective and no HDMI? I much prefer that there's HD-SDI. Who wants consumer HDMI? Most DSLR monitors have HD-SDI except like the Lilliputs.

The only thing I can think of that would have made me a little happier with this camera, at this price point, is a Sony E-mount - which is adaptable to basically every kind of lens I can even think of.

Don't understand this no PL lens , I have been using a Pl to Canon EF on my 7D for while now without any issue (except for some old zeiss with long rear.. which might not be a problem as there is no mirror to block !)

Valid point. Still, the question is whether 16mm glass will cover the sensor. m4/3 definitely would and there's a lot of fast wide glass available - unfortunately there's no way to use m4/3 with this camera. Can't believe they didn't think about it, very strange. Apart from that the camera looks very promising, I don't mind smaller sensor at all - DR is my fetish :)

The thing's only $3000. Hotrod Cameras or someone smart will figure out how to add 4/3rds and PL mounts to it in a jiffy.

Heck, maybe someone will even be game to take two of them apart and hack 'em together to make a fun stereo rig :)

I kinda get the feeling that Blackmagic will just be like "Awesome hacks, guys! Go for it!"

Which will be refreshing vs Panasonic who discourage GH2 hacks... vs RED, who banned the guy who took apart their SSD and posted pics of the (cheap) components inside on Reduser, etc :)

I might be reading too much into what's been said, but there is mention on the report from NAB, that the sensor output is 2.5k for raw recording and 1080 for ProRes. Is it possible that this will be a crop I wonder? If so, it could open up the use of more 16mm glass.

I'm curios about it's audio capabilities. I've watched sever videos from NAB and I haven't seen on screen audio meters. I'm hoping it has them as well as a way to independently adjust each channel while recording. This could just be an oversight on my part.

I think it is very interesting that Blackmagic continues to call this an "AQUISITION DEVICE" rather than a camera.
That in a nutshell is where we are going. I have no doubt that we are in the era of aquisition devices and that thinking
outside of the box, means literally just that. There are a million other forms that this direction will take besides the boxes
we have before us today.

I'm happy with this. That knight in shining armour is here! But obviously there will still be those that want more, for less: Don't be greedy now. This is the next revolution.

Edit: Watching these sample videos, and I must say: I'm impressed. Which isn't what I could say when I watched the DBolex videos...
