Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

If it based on that sensor, there are other industrial cameras that use it that also offer more framerate options at lower resolutions. I hope that if it is that sensor, that some of those resolutions/ speeds become possible. Like the pco.edge PDF Here

but that camera dont do internal recording...
its sensor head with cable ....and 100fps is 500MB/s how many ssd can do that...

I know, I'm talking about something like a DNXHD/Prores 720P 60+fps mode. It's not going to do RAW over 30fps ever. Things I want would be 1-30fps ramping in RAW.

It has Thunderbolt port which can do 10Gbit/s- so it's the most advanced camera in terms of recording possibilities.

Vladszp has a point. Also, it's obvious that the BMD guys are trying to cut costs to a certain extent (no s35, SSD, EF mount, 1/4 instead of XLR...), and using those frame rates would just push the price of the camera sky-high because of the hardware. This isn't a DBolex, it does a lot of processing in camera.

Speaking of DBolex, anyone remember how the DBolex guys were saying how much an HD-SDI port would have cost? Something like $3,500 extra?? Here is a whole camera with HD-SDI for cheaper than what just the HD-SDI module should cost...

Like every other booth, the set was pretty well lit, but the rang of this first gen camera was not up to snuff compared to others currently on the market.

I think the raw output quality really depends on the post processing that is applied after capture. Were you seeing the raw output or something that had a LUT applied to it? Kind of hard for me to judge a camera's image quality until I have a file to push in post but the bondi example vids look pretty good to me.

@bimdas
spot on ...
with RAW files u can do great things ...
but if u dont know what u do u can mess things horribly ....

Just paid a £500 deposit to cvp in uk so now I'm gonna learn about the bleeding edge!
hope I don't bleed too much.
I own tokina 11-16 and sigma 30mm amongst others in canon and I had money set aside to buy the birger mount for my af101..lol, the last straw was the panny announcement about a paid upgrade.
I will keep af101 as its ok for some jobs.

All I can say is FINALLY. Been waiting for this since 2006. 24p RAW 12 bit large sensor 3 grand. Sold. And selling my HVX.

You know. If I were at Apple, I'd be thinking in terms of acquiring BlackMagic right about now :) that would squash Google but good. What could be better than that 7"Ipad I've been dreaming up than an iPad on the back of a 2.5K camera ??? I mean, add ALL the broadband functionality of the tablet to this and next thing is a remote team is 'directing' . Gives me goosebumps just thinking of it.

I don't know why so many always talk about apple aquisition of exiting technologies. At least in the pro video world it has been a masacre, look at the long list of promissing software that they have bought to can them afterward like Shake.

Insane specs at this price point! I love it! Test footage on vimeo shows great dynamic range so you can get away with smaller/cheaper lights and bouncers in contrastier scenes.

I knew it was just a matter of time before someone realised what DSLR video boom is all about and made a proper affordable cine camera for the masses and profited on volume. But BM?! That came out of nowhere.

And I'm all for slightly smaller than m4/3 sensor. You can get low dof when you need it and keep moving things in focus easier. I'm already having troubles keeping fast shots in focus with GH2 in low light where I need large apertures.

One question though... Is onboard 1080p a downscale or a crop of the sensor? Thanks.

I visualise strapping this to a boat by some kind of suction or some other device. This time when I was kneeling down to hold the camera above the waterline, I was hoping that a huge salt water crocodile doesn't take a fancy and decide to grab. Earlier I was thinking about a go pro but was not too keen about the quality. This one seems to fit the bill. Any idea whether this camera has environmental sealings like Canon?

I think it is very interesting that Blackmagic continues to call this an "AQUISITION DEVICE" rather than a camera.
That in a nutshell is where we are going. I have no doubt that we are in the era of aquisition devices and that thinking
outside of the box, means literally just that. There are a million other forms that this direction will take besides the boxes
we have before us today.

Absolutely. 'Post' should never mean 'FIX' of RAW data.DSP can only do so much in camera and out. The rest has to be provided by the Sensor, lighting etc. We've seen that over and over in cameras preceding the BM. A camera at this price point has limitations so it's pointless constantly yammering about the 'what if' of it all.

Perhaps you haven't heard the latest rumor? That Apple cut a deal with Autodesk- to hobble FCS for good in exchange for a exclusive Smoke+Mac marriage (ie closed loop edit universe)!
They all do the 'slash & burn' conquer & divide thing (I'm still sore at Macromedia for selling out to Adobe). Sometimes it's good for the survival game and at others it is not. And it's NOT always about us the customers. I've been watching convergence for 20 years. It's rather fun to speculate.

You have to remember there are only 6 of these cameras in existence right now. It's still very very early days for BMD. What's blown me away is how fast they have done this. Every week my camera is getting better and better. I expect the release version will be pretty sweet.

They are developing their own version of a LOG file. That is what is currently displayed...it's a compromise between LOG and 709. I think they plan to make third a user selectable option. Also, the HDSDI output is a quick debater, and not indicative of what's recorded RAW.

jb

They have. They've gone for the mount with the widest established user base of cheap(ish) lenses. m4/3 is on the list along with PL.

jb

Like the simple fact that it's EF mount and ZE(or nikon) mount only at the moment. THats one, and one big one. No Hdmi (for the DSLr target market)? Theres 2.

Barry said it best.

For this price point, EF mount made the most sense for them in terms of widely available low cost lenses. They won't be stopping with just one model of one camera.
