EDIT: And no HDMI means no EVF...

No HDMI - but it has a professional standard HD-SDI out.

It's not like you canto to a sensor shop and choose whatever you like. There's a huge amount of work involved in even getting one that's already "finished" and making that work.

I think it is impressive enough that they were able to do what they did with a third party sensor. They were already experts at pretty much every other aspect of a good camera. I only see the sensor part of it getting better with time. If this is the worse this camera will ever produce that is pretty darn awesome.

You don't need white balance with raw file you do what you want when edit with adobe and can make a choice which balance you want that's means raw

You can of course choose a white balance point in the camera. Although this choice can't be changed in the DNG's, there is so much range, I don't think it will be a problem. The only cameras that offer a white point that isn't baked in are RED and Alexa (RAW). In my experience with Alexa ProRes, it's not a deal breaker if you make the wrong choice with WB. I'm sure it's the same with this camera.

The shots of the cameraman in the video show him using a viewfinder on the camera. I wonder if the camera will have built in ND's?

LOL, a very civil discussion about the BlackMagic Cinema camera on that other brightly colored forum was closed....Wow

The sensor size being slightly smaller than a GH2 means the good ol' plastic fantastic LA7200 will probably be hitting $2000 or more on fleabay

The cool thing is that the sensor is potentially able to do ANAMORPHIC. at the moment they aren't treating that area of the sensor as *active* but I'm trying to get them to look at Anamorphic. This won't be till way down the track though.

A few questions if anyone knows.

Does it record 10-bit 4:4:4 in 1080p Pro-res?

Any idea what the lines of resolution will look like? Somewhere near 1000 lines?

John, this ties into your post...

Are you allowed to share your wish list and or deliver some wish list thoughts to those guys?

IS there any consideration for M4/3 adaptation AND... how's the battery situation going to pan out?

What about increased read/refresh to compensate for rolling shutter?

It will be easy to run a converter...even hyperdeck shuttle for running monitor.
as for internal nd...probably not but have they got a low iso setting?..wouldnt be surprised.

Yes you download the dng files by ikonoskop here http://www.ikonoskop.com/dii/footage/ just scroll downside
And follow the example video workflow then you will see what happened what you can do with the colors thats amazing

Only, it doesn't seem like its the same sensor as its a different size and has more dynamic range. Is this a sensor that came from their gopro aquisition? Is this a high end gopro camera?

Question for John - this seemed all shot handheld for the most part - I dont see any cmos jello, and someone mentioned it before. How's the performance in this area from your experience?

For what it's worth, we too have shot a LOT of footage on the red at 3k (about the same size as this sensor). Never was an issue, and you don't even end up remembering what you shot 3k or 4k.. just remember if it was a good shot or a bad shot. I think the sensor size with not be much of a showstopper for most. The 11-16s will keep working though, that's certain!

I'm a little cautious, but just a little. Blackmagic is a great company that makes high-quality products, and the blog post is a ringing endorsement. It seems silly for any shooter to not own this camera. Heck, just the included Davinci Resolve is worth a good portion of the $3k!

Anyway, I'm really hoping this isn't a joke. Not that I think it is, but it seems so good, almost too good, right? Finally, we can all have a great camera at a rock-bottom price point and stop complaining about manufacturers holding technology back.

Now, let's get these things shipped and go tell some stories!
