C100: Black magic video assist or ninja 2

Hey guys, does the VA record true progressive from the c100 now or does it not have pull down (I'm not knowledgeable in this area) so should I just go for the ninja 2? Don't fancy spending a bit more. For the blade not entirely bothered about the screen but if the VA does record Progressive then I'd obviously go for that..

I can't speak for the VA but I have the ninja blade and it is an amazing monitor on it's own. Very accurate colors and nice exposure features. It's worth it in my opinion especially now that they are $500 and come with a calibration unit.
The ninja 2 is great if you absolutely just need prores and the monitor is not an issue. The image quality and color accuracy is a gigantic leap from the ninja 2 to the blade.

The BlackMagic VA doesn't do internal pulldown removal like the Atomos Ninja recorders. I captured a clip on a test unit at a local camera store and couldn't figure out how to do it with Adobe CC (I used to use Cinema Tools from the FCP suite to do this kind of thing, but no longer have that software). I would not be surprised if BlackMagic corrected this in a future firmware update, but it's an unknown at this point.

Between the pulldown headache, the weird colors (heavy yellowish cast in the displayed image), the fan noise, and the fact that the VA only takes low-capacity Canon LP-E6 batteries, I went with a used Ninja Blade kit and two extra Atomos 5200mAh batteries that altogether cost me about the same amount as a new VA (but should give me about ten hours of battery life).

its a shame in the uk the blade doesnt come with the calibration kit otherwise I would jump at it, im tempted to get a ninja star and Aputure FineHD 2 instead.

Yeah thats a bummer. If you don't mind the dual devices and 2 sets of batteries thats not a bad option. I haven't seen for myself but have heard great things about the Aputure monitor.
Erik Naso has a quick first impression write up of it.
