Black Magic PocketHD and 4K production camera

Nothing can change the game until it actually exists.
By the time it exists it may no longer be considered a game changer.

I'd bet those digital bolex guys are having a bad evening !

1st Black Magic was a bust for me. Small chip, no replaceable battery, lousy wide angle choices. If this little S-16 size chip can actually take S-16 glass that would be great. There's a lot super 16 primes and zooms out there catching dust, for now.

I think they changed the game with the first one, even though they had some rough patches... a whole new forum, a whole new demographic, a new expectation of what is possible. Along with the 4K for 4K I see the pocket cam as an extreme game changer as far as what is "expected" for entry into the cinema camera realm. It's not a DSLR trying to be 2 things at once....it's a camera made for moving pictures for $995. It's crazy. lol

WTF is ultra HD?

compressed RAW cool. EF mount not so cool, MFT with a speedbooster would be preferable.

I hope this one has an OLPF.

It would be interesting if BM made the s16 version with a B4 mount including lens power. Being able to use 2/3" broadcast lenses would turn the whole thing upside down. But I am not expecting this to come true.

"4K support" I bet this is to a external recording device, we will find out tomorrow.

I was wondering a short while back (as we're in the count down to NAB) how many people were paying "over list" in the MarketPlace, eBay, and elsewhere just to have a BMCC?
I know for a fact that a couple lucky souls paid as much as $4k for one.

Regarding BM "being smart" . . . I think that ship has already sailed (as evidenced by this news), hats off to BM for not sitting on their butts!

Upgrades, trade-ins? You can't be serious?

I can't help but think that the Pocket Cinema Camera looks an awful lot like a Sony NEX-5. If it's not a coincidence, could it be the
case that Black Magic are going to start selling rebadged, restyled Sony NEX-5's?

This is great and all, but can't they do something about that horrendous form factor? For me, it's not just the picture, but how much fun I am having shooting is definitely part of the equation. They should just try a bit harder to make the camera more production and run and gun friendly.

NEX cameras never recorded CinemaDNG RAW. But it does look similar to an NEX.
