Black Magic Cinema Pocket Camera.

In a previous thread I made the statement about wanting to have a 'cheap', basically a 'sensor', lens mount, and attendant 'readout' capability, and why should I have to pay 2-3x for such capability, when 'stripping' down features out of a DSLR would probably satisfy my 'need'...

The BMC-Pocket seems to be just that...

I only briefly saw the camera at NAB yesterday, so, the only info I have is what has been announced by Black Magic Design. But in short it looks to be a very stripped down, enough sensor and lens mount, and 'data' capture interfaces, to capture 'moving pictures', and that's it... for a suggested price of $995...

Since I obviously don't have one... don't have any access to 'early evals', etc... I have no idea if the camera would live up to the expectation... but the point is... it is just a bare bones capture device, at a 'cheap' price.
(I did see the Bolex Super 16mm camera elsewhere at the show, and I don't particularly care for the 50's looking design... although I'm sure some people would think it's cool...).

When asked about 'still capture' capability... the guy who was answering questions about the camera, responed with '30 fps, pick any one you want'... so, it is really a moving pictures only camera.

I will tell you in using the BMCC, the 2.5k RAW DNG files are pretty amazing when brought into photoshop. I don't think there would be any problem using them for various purposes including web use, as desktop images, etc. Prints would be a different story, but the raws are incredibly sharp and gorgeous. It's just deciding which one to use that's the issue. The volume at 24 fps is a bit overwhelming.

This is the one I'm excited about. The pricepoint and features seem like the perfect balance for a cinema camera lite.
