Birger Adapter April 1 Update- NAB/AF100/FS100

Ive tried the redrock and it conked out in the middle of a shoot.

Could you be more specific? Exactly what do you mean by "conked" out? Did the battery go dead? Did you have a replacement? Did the battery not fix it? Or did it turn on but not actually change the aperture?

its turned on, its powered. numbers on the lcd changes but the aperture wouldnt change on the lenses. tried different lenses and it didnt work either.
turned it on and off. took the battery in and out.we tried setting the aperture on a 5D, then when you plug it in the adapter it reverts and opens the aperture fully. :\ and we still cant control the aperture.

i dont know if the unit got replaced since it wasnt mine. but it really did slow the shoot down.

Eric told that they are still working on it and very close to finish , but will not announce the dates till its ready to ship.....

probably metabones will be the 1st ..... i think i heard somewhere they told its going to be ready in august..... they already did the unit for nex, so i hope it will not be that hard for them to do the same for m4/3

I spoke to Erik 2 weeks ago- he said he hopes to have the F3 adapter end of August/early Sept, AF100 and FS100 soon thereafter.

You're free to react as you see appropriate to this.

If he releases the F3, I'll get ready...

Oh man - Metabones just released VERSION 2 of their Smart EF to E-mount (NEX) adapter. So yes, they'll probably be first to market with the MFT version.

Wow, Birger keeps looking worse and worse...

WOW is this still going on:( I stupidly sold all my FD L primes and replaced with EF L before i bought my Af100 ( which i sold in the end ) . I had a pre order with CVP at the time for the birger mount which i waited for and waited some more. I ended up getting really upset as i had made such a stupid mistake which Barry correctly put me in my place for doing. Its a shame Eric can't get his **** together looks like a good product but i'm so so happy i didn't wait

Well, anytime an electronic device fails it can slow a shoot down. Cameras can fail too (like RED), so unless this is an ongoing issue instead of just a bum unit I don't think it's quite fair to insinuate that the Live Lens is generally faulty, no?

Here's how I react: and then someone will speak to him in October and he'll claim that the F3 adapter will be ready at the end of December/first of January, with the AF100 and FS100 to follow soon thereafter.

Rinse and repeat.

The Kipon isn't actually a follow focus so it isn't an alternative to Birger its an alternative to having nothing at all.

Great! That means Kipon will probably be able to release theirs!

Considering I shoot mainly on sticks and have my own (very nice) Redrock Follow Focus Blue, I just want aperture change. Is that too much to ask?

well follow focus or not ..... seems like that by the time when or if birger will do something, everyone will own already an adopter with iris control and it can become a product that no one needs any more.... I am not going to wait for them for sure, and will buy the one that will be 1st on market... kipon or metabones... i believe they are going to be for sale much sooner......

making an adopter for like 2 years or even longer - seems strange. They could do a working adopter with just iris control.... and later, when their other fancy options are ready, they could give it/or sell it as software upgrade or do a hardware upgrade for a fee.... I think the situation really Hurts their reputations, as i am not sure who ever will take their words seriously in the future.

There are already two products shipping today that provide that.

A bit out of my price-range at the moment, given how few Canon EOS lenses I want to use. I like the look of the Kipon because it's compact, but as it stands now, I do want the LiveLens adapter when I feel the time is right to drop $600 on such a unit.
