Birger Adapter April 1 Update- NAB/AF100/FS100

its just wrong....
It's not "wrong". Nobody is forcing you to buy anything. It is an option, among other options. If it does the job you need, then buy it. If it doesn't do what you need, don't buy it. No need to evangelize about the morality of them charging the price that they feel is fair for the product they produced.

If you truly felt that it was "wrong", you could always develop your own adapter and sell it for less. Until then, you simply don't know what their engineering costs, r&d costs, licensing costs, prototyping and development costs, manufacturing costs, packaging costs, marketing costs, distribution costs, and size of potential market are. They priced it at what they feel is reasonable, and it probably is - for them.

If you can't afford it, don't buy it, fine. But don't crap on them for going through the effort to make a product, sheesh.

i probably over reacted, after i saw the adopter link, i was already holding my amex ... 1 step from buying , but then i noticed that the box is not included, and the price for the box it self just killed me....

Amen, Barry, well said.

I get so tired of folks making a million assumptions about different companies' pricing and marketing schemes, that a product should only cost so much, that they are sticking it to the customer, blah, blah, blah. If you donʻt know it for a fact, do NOT assume. While weʻre at it, do not assume that Blackmagic will deliver on-time, or even at all... that remains to be seen!

Comparing the MTF adapter to the Redrock (which I already own), the only significant operational difference I see is that the MTF allows powering the IS in the lens. Is that correct, or are there other features that make it worth investing in? From the web page, am I right to infer that there is no access to auto-focus or any ability for the camera connected on the M43 end to control iris, focus or IS?

Genuinely seeking information, not critical of the company or their product in any way ...

The depths to which some people will sink— have a look at the response to my post that I received in my email, from a certain

"But we arent all as damn wealthy as you are so STFU! MTF, Zacuto, Redrock are all RIP OFF MERCHANTS and sooner 3rd parties do a decent copy of their gear the ****ing better!"

Well said, Mr. Mullen, you even know how to spell "****ing" correctly! Bravo!

well there are no contacts that will connect camcorder to adopter,..... yes they offer IS, but there is 1 more "Extra" - MTF makes adopters for F3 , Nex and M4/3 - so u can use their 650punds BOX with any of them, so in case u own all 3 Camcorders u can buy 3 adopters, but u ll need only 1 box to control Iris. So it maybe an extra Plus to their IS support. but unfortunately its still too expansive for me.

good thing i dont own canon glass now, i only going to buy it after proper adopter will be created , with out extra power boxes..... so who ever will be faster - metabones or birger, i ll buy it, and will start hunting for canons..

I am less concerned about price and more concerned about availability. The biggest erroneous assumption would be to assume that Erik at Birger will ever live up to his words and deliver what he says, when he says.

there is also metabones, they already did it for nex , its just for some reasons not for sale now..... so i hope its just a meter of time,..... who ever is 1st is fine, - i also dont want any boxes and extra cords, i already have enough of accessories!......
about the waiting time, as i understood it was expected, same happened when birger did adopter for red one, but they finally finished it like in 2 years i believe, so its close now ! hope the red one adopter worked ok.....

but also as adopter for nex already exist, and there is a new cam on horizon, i will wait and see what will happen .....

The Metabones has been trickling out at a slow but steady pace. Production capacity has never reached the point where you would be able to outright 'Add-to-cart' except for the first few hours it was put on sale. However, people have been able to get it by putting themselves on Metabones' waiting list. You've got nothing to lose just signing up - if the invoice arrives and down the road you change your mind, just disregard it, or better yet just reply them that you changed your mind.

Ok not sure if its a good news , but Birger updated their website ! http://www.birger.com/

here is the new info:

The Birger exhibits in April at NAB 2012 (Las Vegas) and in May at the AIA Vision 2012 (Boston) are now complete. Birger demonstrated lens control systems on Sony (FS100, FS700 and F3), Panasonic (AF100), Red (EpicX and One) and Imperx (Bobcat) cameras. Photo below is our exhibit at NAB 2012, featuring the soon-to-be-shipping Canon EF Lens Adapter for the Sony PMW-F3.

Even though he didn't announce official release dates at NAB (he's learned otherwise), he did say F3 first, and by summer.
Time will tell, but thanks for the update, anatusa.

There won't be enough of a market for it by the time it ships. I would just throw in the towel if
I was Birger.

I'm new to the AF 100, but experienced enough to need a mount for my cannon lenses. Any news on the Birger AF 100 lens adapter?
