Billy Bob is loco!

...And he wasn't. He didn't ask him one question about it. He simply stated who he was for the listening audience at home.

Perhaps, and I was serioulsy worried about how I phrased that, that it would be taken the wrong way.

'Perhaps', maybe, the deal was not to 'Mention it'. Which makes my statement of 'asking about it' quite different. The asking part was my presumption, and thus, after posting, concerned me, and sure enough, you jumped on the technicallity of it. Bravo.

You didn't bum me out dude. As for the transcribing, I was documenting the reasons for my opinion.
Anything else?

//Allllright, I should have said "You didn't bum me out dude, I was kidding around about the page 4 SNL thing. That's why I showed the beer smiley."

I assume most people around here know when a joke is a joke and I try to do that by saying I'm not being too serious, here's the beer smiley. My mistake if I don't make that clear. Fair enough.

No worries, I'll phrase my comment differently and I won't be quoting anything you have said.

When I see an adult act like a child it saddens me. He obviously has some serious issues that he needs to get over. It's unacceptable behaviour for you and I and it shouldn't be any different for him.

On a live radio broadcast no less.

He looked like a child taking a temper tantrum, yet he's a grown man.

Not much more needs to be said. He was out of line and I would have had more respect for him had he just interrupted the Host during the intro and set him straight like an ADULT.

No silly... "what... I don't know what you mean.... I had these monster toys once...."

What a baby.

And again.... his poor band. They are stuck with this buffoon. I'm a famous actor but don't mention it or I'll act like I'm 3.

Thornton just seemed mean. He's drifting around the country as a highly paid musician mainly because he was an actor first. Sure the band has talent--as do many bands who are starving too. And while it's totally fair to avoid questions about acting in a music interview, Ghomeshi didn't ask him a thing about movies. After the introduction, Ghomeshi never brings up acting again...until Thornton does.

I interviewed Ghomeshi a couple years ago for a music documentary. I'd never met him before. We ambushed him in a hotel hallway. He was so gracious, took several moments to thoughtfully answer questions and thanked us. Night and day huh?

Celebrity power corrupts absolutely.

p.s. I love the part when Thornton says he grew up as a music historian. Really? Wow. Like he had his PhD at 3 or something. Argh!

Geez, now they are showing it on E! News

Gotta give it to him, I had no idea he had a band until this stunt.

Hey Mike, sorry to rehash this, I was away. I could have sent a PM, but a public post would help I think.
Quickly, I only quoted you because everyone else was so I figured that was the source of the comment.

When I said 'you' jumped right on it, well, that wasn't exactly directly at you, more of at the 'whoever responded in the same way to your comment thing'.
I'm always really bad for using 'you' when I'm talking to a group of people.

As for not quoting me anymore, I'm fine with that although I'm afraid you think I was jumping on you over you quoting me. Not so at all. If I post something, I'll stand by it or later concede I was wrong if convinced otherwise, which I have here more than one. If you (anyone) does not like something I say, call me on it. If I'm wrong, I'll apologise.

As for the childish behavior on Thorntons part, fine, I can go with that, no challenge there.

I was try to point out what actually took place, imo, and why, as some people were thinking he was 'out of it' and really weren't understanding it.

The rest of it that followed, as I said, I don't have an argument for. He handled it the way he did.

I wasn't ragging on you Mike, just trying to give some facts on what actually took place, as it seemed to me people weren't really concerned about what took place. It seemed like they just wanted to put him down.

Looks like he wasn't acting in Bad Santa...just playing himself...

So true.

You know whats interesting is that no matter how good the actor is (excepting for maybe Daniel Day Lewis/Gary Oldman shapeshifting types) I don't really think the actor can always hide their true nature. I'm sure I'm generalizing a bit but whenever you are watching a movie with certain actors, you get a sense of who they are or what they might be like in real life. What I find interesting is that if you ever hear of any commentary regarding that actor its usually pretty close to what you might imagine.

The BOTTOM LINE:

Would the band have even been invited onto the show in the first place were it not for its already well known (actor) singer/drummer?

So the guy is human, he's awkward socially. A bit of a misfit, an outsacst even. Screwed up, messed up, socially. He doesn't not fit in, he's not normal, he's screwed up, 'socially'.
Well, okay, we got that part of it. Billy Bob is a bit 'out there'. Agreed?

Is he stupid though? No. Is he untalented? Cough, hardly.
He's a guy doing his thing in life, and doing pretty damn good.

Honestly, the only reason I get mad about these things is, your (speaking to the public I mean) putting down a real person here. The same kind of person that might be a member of dvxuser. Would you talk to them the same way? Or would you get a 'warning'?

He's only a celebrity because the public made him that. And no, you don't need have to hold him to any higher standards than who 'he really is'. Not against anything else.
Not your standards or mine. He is who he is.

Some of you have made a valid point. Fine.
As far as I'm concerned, who should care if he went off? So what? Big deal. Get over it.
As Avril Levigne said recently 'it happens every Saturday night in Napanee.'

And don't give me that 'Public Spotlight' celebrity crap.
Remember, these are still real people, with real lives and real emotions.
Maybe a little more understanding on everyones part would suit me better overall.

Let's put it this way, everyone so far has focued on his fk up I suppose because that's the topic, , but noone had anything else good to say about him. All of the great works he's done, imo, and continues to do. That bugs me, to see all his past work go down in shame over one assinine incident, and no one has the right to judge him on that alone.

Anyways folks, obviously I could be quoted and parts argued on and this could go on forever.
I hope you get the jist of that I'm saying, if you even made it this far, lol.

Alright, I'l brase myself for the hate mail now. I don't know what else to say.

Oh yeah,. dvxuser rocks, haha.

As Avril Levigne said recently 'it happens every Saturday night in Napanee.'

I've been to Napanee, took a piss in the mall for a pit stop on a trip to Montreal once. That has absolutely nothing to do with anything, thought I just mention it.

Sure Billy Bob may be a good actor and really for some people the fact that he may be dickish may not really matter. But I think for a lot of us, it's the irony of the interview (him asking not to be asked about his acting career), the only reason he can even do that is because he's had a very succesful career in acting and Jian didn't even ask him, he mentioned he was an actor at the very start.

Then there was he's little quote at the concert at Massey Hall, later the next day calling Ghomeshi an "Asshole", no wonder he got booed and no wonder they cancelled the rest of the tour because of the "Flu".

Here's the video of him getting heckled in Toronto - http://digg.com/celebrity/Billy_Bob_Thornton_s_Speech_at_Massey_Hall

I think an easy way to sum this up, is that were pretty proud people and we don't like eating shi* from some actor who acted like a small child and insulted us.

We'll that's your opinion. Napanee and everything. I personlly find it very relevant. Whatever.

Well, okay, I assume your not on the same page as myself, as most , if not all, are not. Fine.

I've been to Napanee before too. I've not only pissed there, I've dranked there, played there and lived there. And yes I've met Avril and Yes I think it's relevant. But whatever man, I'm not here to pick a fight, lol. ya know?
I'm saying, I think all of this 'trashing people' stuff is a poor way to get ahead in life. Even if the public thinks so. I don't think there is ever any reason to publicly put someone down personally.

-Cheers.

It's all good man.

Well BBT crapped on someone so he deserves to get crapped on in return. That's life. His body of work has nothing to do with it. It's pretty shallow to defend an A-hole by using his body of work as an excuse.
