Big storms...

Apparently they're calling for some huge tornado creating storms tonight in the Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri areas. For the other DVXUsers out there in those areas, be safe. After seeing what happened in Joplin the other day, it makes it all the more unnerving.

Hopefully I'll be able to read this thread tomorrow and realize it wasn't anything to worry about, but that's not how it's looking now.

Stay safe!

Be safe!!!!!! I always wanted to "chase" twisters, but there is a human element I wouldn't be able to overcome if I saw any damage or injury. I would kick into "rescue mode".

Been watching news reporters standing in rubble asking people questions which by rights ought to get them punched in the face. It frequently amazes me that it doesn't.

+1
I know somebody's gotta report the news but sometimes I get a sick feeling watching some of these stations eating this stuff like liquid gold - TORNADO WATCH 2011.......all day coverage!!!
Some of them just present it in a very sleazy fashion.
(I'm not saying they're all bad and actually many reports help to warn/advise people)

Storms have passed OKC. About to hit Tulsa. The Teflon family is fine, but others weren't so lucky. Everyone else ok?

Yeah, If you sit back and watch the news like you're from another planet it's a very strange thing. My local news always goes like this -

Anchor (using his patented fake somber expression)- There's tragedy in the heart of the city tonight caused by a fatal drunk driving accident. A 33 year old man, driving under the influence lost control of his car and veered into the oncoming lane of another vehicle, killing all 3 on board.
John K Doe was three times the legal limit when the incident occurred...he was not injured and was arrested on sight. It was his 5th drunk driving offense.

(immediately changes to patented glowing smile) ...and in other news, Local pastry chef Betty Wilson has won another award for her famous Bear Claws! MMMM...Can you say scrumptious!
Now here's Alex with our 1st alert weather.

Alex the weatherman (always with a BIG CHEESY SMILE no matter what the weather) - We're going to have more snow, followed by more rain...and gusts of wind to 30MPH! Only in Montana!!!!

Sorry to get off the topic..... I sincerely hope everyone is safe. Glad to hear the Teflon family is safe.

We've had some pretty serious sh*t hitting in MO lately... as was mentioned, Joplin (national news everywhere)... but only a couple weeks ago we had a pretty major tornado take out the STL airport... including the stripping of many houses right off their foundations... and trees 3' in diameter... that turned to what looked like a handful of TOOTHPICKS... from about 6' off the ground! This is no exaggeration... and all happening within about 20 miles of my front door.

It's been a really interesting storm season. Just this morning I cut up a 60' tall tree that missed my parents' house by INCHES... It was blown down last night in yet another sudden bout of straight-line wind.

This stuff really makes you appreciate the absence of any serious problems in your life... each time one of these storms comes through... I admire nature's power, but I always think/pray a bit about the safety of everyone (and their homes).

Matt, you are one of the people I was concerned about, and a few other members that I know are in that region. I know you are in St. Louis.......at least your screen name says as such.

Is everyone okay? Today's storms were pretty violent as well, out there.

Mid West roll call!:

Glad to hear you're safe, Matt. Last night after our bout with mother nature, I hear the meteorologist say, "And now Joplin is under another tornado warning." My heart sank. I couldn't find any reports from out there, though. I'm just hoping that they were spared this time. I can't imagine making it through one storm like the one a few days ago only to be hit again.

Whew... crazy stuff here in Dallas last night also. At one point, there were said to be 4 tornadoes on the ground throughout the metroplex.
