Big problem capturing A1 footage - Total FALLOUT!

Not sure what is going on. I have 20+ hours of A1 footage. I captured most weeks ago and it's fine. Now I am trying to capture the rest and everything I capture is completely garbage. Tons of fallout. I want the footage on my camera and it's fine. I've even tried recapturing footage that I know captured fine weeks ago and it's trashed.

Look at this example

I am using Adobe Premiere with Cineform capture settings. I've also tried Cineforms HDLink. Both with the same terrible results. I am using my A1 as the deck. Footage is shot on Sony HDV tapes and is primarily 24f. I've also noticed while I am capturing the 24f footage, most captures at 23.976, yet some is captured as 29.97. Why is this?

I am at a total loss here. I have a deadline for this project and now my footage is total garbage.

Any ideas?

try capturing using Sony Vegas. I had a major fallout with a wedding video. Literally 20mins of it had audio that was looping over and over from the first 2 seconds of that video.

So i jumped to another program to capture and all was fine. I was using premiere to begin with and that cost me the issues. So try another capture application.

I have. I've tried Cineform's HDLink. Same result. I rewind, recapture and some that was previously bad will capture fine and then the problems will start again. Never exactly the same, but ultimately always present. It's like it's a bad connection to the computer. Wish I had a different PC, different camera to test with but I dont.

Any more ideas?

what about a different firewire cable? I have like 3 lying around, i find myself alternating between all of them. Last time i had this huge problem, i just switched to Vegas and it worked out fine.

Well I would check to make sure that you are capturing to the internal hard drive in your machine because often external hard drives are to slow. Also you might try deleting the the premiere preview and encoded files because they could still be effecting the computer. i would also check to make sure you have no other large programs or process running in the background taking up CPU cycles.

Yeah, and double check the firewire cable. I had a problem like that with a Canon GL2 a while back--trying to capture into Premiere CS3. Switched cables and switched capture programs (used Pinnacle Studio Ultimate for the capture) and had no problems. I've since gone back to Premiere for capturing with no problems, so I'm guessing it was the cable.

I think I may have isolated the problem. I bought a new cable and didn't fix it. Then I tried using HDVsplit to capture to m2t files and everyone has been fine. I try HDlink and Premiere both have problems. The common thread is both are using the Cineform capture codec and both have problems. I haven't tested on enough footage to know for sure, but sure seems like thats the problem.

If it is, looks like my $500 cineform purchase was a sham.

I'm having severe timecode break issues when capturing to FCP 6. There are no timecode breaks on the tape but FCP just mangles the footage.

I can't replace my editing suite so it looks like I have to ditch the canon.
