Big mistake. Is it fixable?

So because I'am an idiot I forgot to check my video settings for them to match previous days work. I originally recorded some interviews at 1280 width but the second rounds of videos are at 640.

What do you think is the best way to save this?

Yeah definitely 'fixable' but you'll take a pretty noticeable hit in quality with even the best up-conversion. This will be most jarring at HD resolution. For online and standard definition DVD it will be less apparent. Be careful next time. :)

I would say unless you are desperate for the 1280, downconvert everything to be SD 640. That way it will all at least somewhat match....

Always, always, ALWAYS, give yourself a moment to double-check everything, no matter how crazy the shoot is.

I figured the quality will be pretty noticeable but it wasn't a paying gig so I don't really mind.

I've learned my lesson! TRIPLE CHECK YOUR SETTINGS!

It still happens at times, I for one can attest to letting an important aspect fall through the cracks. Sometimes it's just unavoidable. Though these things usually happen when there's one person doing five jobs. Murphy's an ass kicker at times...... lol

Check-lists help.

Sometimes re-shooting is the best option. You could first talk to the interviewees and see if they're pleased with what they've done. Perhaps they want a second opportunity...

How could you have not noticed that you were recording at different settings? I mean the screen even crops on the sides....

I could see this beeing overlooked in the heat of the moment, espescially if you're doing the interview yourself and are only glancing at the camera from time to time.

I did something similar last week - accidentally stitched the record mode to 640x480 between recordings. I did notice the black bars on the side but I also had the ML cinescope crop-marks and though it might just be some quirk with the ML overlays. It wasn't until I tried to use focus assist and it gave me a message saying "not available in this mode" that I realised something was wrong. Luckily it was just some test shooting and nothing important.

I'd agree with others that the best solution might be to down-res the 1280p footage to match the rest.

@maranfilms nailed it. When I'm doing 5 different things at once, it's easy to overlook something like that. I'm working on the lighting, the external audio, the camera, and the uncomfortable students I was interviewing...

Going to downgrade the HD footy to SD so it's all the same. Thanks for everyone's input! I think topics like these are a good reminder for everyone once in a while.
